Ok picked up my 11 plate A3 S-Line 140 TDI last Thursday from an Arnold Clark branch about 90 miles from where I live!
Alls been well with the sale and I love the car. Washed it today and took the rear number plate off to test fit my private plate (short 5digit plate) to find that some **** has drilled through the metal tailgate to mount my new Arnold Clark plates!! The paint work is damaged and I'm raging!
I took photos of the car when I test drove it which show different plates and different fixings and the metal is still shiny so it's only recently been done!
Worst of all is that my short plates don't even cover up the damage so it's all on show!

I have asked that they repair the car-do you think I'm being over sensitive or too hopeful that they'll even offer to do it??

What's your thoughts???

id ask them to sort it

but they may just say its not down to them even with your pics.

I have fired off an email with photos.....the fact that they had the audi fixings and just couldn't be ***** measuring and fit using them:mad new::mad new:

Why oh why do they insist on using Arnold Clark plates when the originals were nicer (GB on them) and the rear was already an AC plate:mad new:

My heart has sank a little reading this. Picked up my A3 from them yesterday and am scared to check to see if mine is the same

I wouldn't worry I don't think it's an AC policy just some stupid/lazy/ boy who didn't think or care!

I'm sure not all their plates are attached in such a manner.....but I would maybe check!

Ask for them to sort it,when I got my Audi from the dealers they had all the stickers and plates holders with their names on,I removed them all sod advertising for them, also the sticker on the rear screen was obstructing my view as it was right in the centre at the top ???

Should see how many holes mine has haha although I just have a regular plate so nobody will ever know.

I hate that too, mine had two stickers from previous dealerships which were off straight away, also took it to Central Audi & VW "Specialists" who did a rubbish job on the car charging well over the odds and had the cheek to leave a promotional sticker in the windscreen!

So have you got holes drilled in your tailgate??

Really??? In the METAL???

I removed the sticker on my rear window only for the metal on the heater element to come with it!! Got that peeved with it I got a new screen put on.

I think I'd be demanding a new tailgate, to preserve the integrity of the corrosion warranty.

Well I had enough waiting and called them back.....the service manager apologised profusely and agreed with everything I said in my email! It's going in on Tuesday to my local Arnold Clark body shop to be assessed them it's getting sorted!! Hire car while mine is in as well!

So to be fair, mega happy with the response and the service manager admitted that it was his staff that had done it and he will be getting "some serious staff training"

I'll post up once the work is done!!

Fantastic news! The easiest way for me to check mine without removing the plate is to know the distance between where the screws should be.

I don't suppose you / anyone knows this?

I'll go out and take my rear plate off and measure the distance between the audi tailgate mountings and post up a photo!

Give me half an hour!!

Ok so in the photo you can see the round audi bolt holes...

Measuring from the centre on one hole to the other is this.....(2011 A3)

If you need more then let me know!!

At the end of the day our cars are our pride and joy,

Definitely get them told, its ridiculous what some people do.

All the best for getting it sorted.

Well update time! Took the car along to my local AC body shop and the boy just looked at it and shook his head....."nothing I can say is there"
So it's strip the paint weld up the holes then skim and paint the whole bottom of the tailgate and put new badges on it and then remove the interior panels and spray anti corrosion stuff on the rear of the repair! Hire car all lined up as well going in on the 5th Jan!

Saying that the boy did tell ME of one store where the boy had the tailgate open and drilled and screwed on the number plates on a brand new car and stood back to admire his work and slammed the tailgate closed........only to find the number recess in the tailgate!!

Whoops!!!

Oh dear! I've still not measured mine yet. Best do it before I forget!

AC won't care, worse dealership i've heard of, i'd tell them but be prepared for a fob off, plus they normally sell ex hire cars so maybe an old one of those.

Dropped car off yesterday for them to fix it...so I'll post up once I get te car back with what I think of the repair!!
