Hi all managed to get myself a vagcom cable today and downloaded vcds lite. As I have mentioned in other posts I am not tec savvie give me a set of spanners any day. Anyway I did a scan and had a few codes chucked I did have a look on the net for what they mean but got confused and fort I would ask for the wisdom of you guys so here we go.

Under the engine tab I got.
01087
00282
00668
Under the air bag tab I got.
00532

So any help with these would be a grate help thanks in advance.

I use ross tech website to identify faults, then using the info off that site I further my research. I'm not tech savvy, when it comes to electronics, diagnostic cable etc. I'm hopeless. Check it out if you haven't already

Cheers for the reply I had a look on Ross tec website just confused me even more lol just looking for a simple answer like its the throttle body or air leak.

Thanks anyway.

I think what is meant by looking on ross techs site is more that you can post the codes and descriptions to help rather than just the codes... just means any of use would need to do that part of the research for you..

Anyhoo... using this wonderful resource http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Fault_Codes

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/01087
01087 - Basic Setting Not Performed

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/00282
00282 - Throttle Position Actuator (V60): Implausible Signal
00282 - Throttle Position Actuator (V60): Short to Ground
00282 - Throttle Position Actuator (V60): Short to Plus

00668 - Supply Voltage Terminal 30: Implausible Signal

Never seen these before tbh.. stating the model and year of your car would help when you post... looking at your previous posts you have a 1.6 NA which is a car not many people have or have masses of experience with tbh... help maybe a bit thin on the ground...

I would clear the codes then see what returns in a week and go from there

Hi thanks for that please don't gete wrong i didn't want to make anyone do any leg work for me just fort someone might know what the codes were i.e 0109934 is a spark plug or something like that as I said I am not tec savvie I did look on the website and got confused my fault for being thick headed. I will try to be abit clearer and put the descriptions of anything like that in the future.

As for the car I will try reset the codes as you said and see if they come back if they do then I think that will be that as it has now worn me down to the point where I'm fed up with it I love the car but just can't be asked any more I'll go back to the old bangers with next to no electrical items on them.

Thanks again for the advice.
Robert.

These cars can be a pain sometimes with all their electronics... the 8L is about as modern as I care to get too tbh...

Unfortunately as I mentioned before the 1.6 was not a popular engine for the A3... most of the members here will have a 1.8t of some description and my own personal experience is 1.8t's and I am unfamiliar with the 1.6 and its inner workings in this context..

What you might find is its worth having a look on the Mk4 Golf forums as this engine was far more popular in the Golf than it ever was in the A3

The throttle fault could be a wiring issue but I am unfamiliar with the 1.6's layput so couldn't say where to start looking

...a quick google of that fault suggests it could be the throttle body but worth having a read through yourself mate to make sure its the same sorta symptoms you are having

Thank you I will have a look when I finish work I did want to get a 1.8t but was put off buy some comments that a mechanic I know told me so I went with the 1.6 as it was a good deal that I didn't want to pass up but has turned out to cost me a small fortune replacing parts that the previous owner didnt tell me he was having problems with so it has been a labour of love to get it mechanicly sound.

Thanks again.

Robert.

I know that feeling well mate...

Would you know by any chance if I would have to use vagcom to do a throttle body alignment as I have been doing some research and I'm going to have the throttle body off this weekend and give it a good service but I have come unstuck because from what I can gather if the throttle body is controlled by a cable then there is no need for realignment just clear the fault codes and it should be fine. Is there any way you can confirm this.
Thanks
Robert
