I have seen many posts, and with spotify now being the main music choice for most people, I was wondering if there's any way to get spotify on the screen instead of music on the music app (iPhone 5s) it's annoying as I don't want to use Bluetooth and manually change the songs (which is dangerous and illegal).

I like you have tried, I always find that when I plug in the AMI it does switch but you can't do anything else even with sync'd playlists. I don't think the MMI is configured to work with Spotify. I read recently it can be used with Napster and other streaming services that no one uses. Ford and BMW work perfectly with Spotify so there is hope that Audi with bring out an update but god knows when

I find it so hard to comprehend that
1) My car has an internet connection,
2) It's a WiFi Hot Spot and
3) It has Google Maps

and still I can not stream music to the car!

100% agree. So annoying I cannot go through artists or choose song through mmi. Have to pick phone up which I try not to do as it's highly distracting.

They need to sort out.

And here comes the Apple CarPlay and/or Google version, handy and useful.

This is assuming it's implemented well by Audi and not full of the usual bugs and limitations, as I've come to expect. iPod Touch + Spotify + AMI is shockingly bad, not only can you not skip songs, but you can't view playlists etc. If I do try to skip forwards, the song details on the MMI freezes. After a minute, it thinks that nothing is playing and I can no longer control the volume, unless I go to the radio and then back to AMI. It's shocking.

Has anyone tried to use Spotty (whatever its called ;) ) music on an older iPod, the one that looks like the first iPhone 3? I seem to remember reading it has something to do with the lightning cable and the tech inside it, also seem (unless i was dreaming) that the Lightning cable doesn't support Video out!

Incorrect article from years ago, do some research and don't believe everything you read.

See as today is blue Monday you can imagine how this seeing this made me feel. I still can't see why Audi can do something similar, the whole app is controlled through the ami system. I think I'm also right I'm thinking that if the car has hdd storage (the 530d I was driving today did) then songs you have made available offline are stored on the cars hdd but can only be played when the Spotify device is connected.

The HDMI out via Lightning is still knobbled though as it won't do genuine 1080p playback - it's slightly lower res then upscaled to 1080p by the adapter.

Not sure about iPhone models but, with the iPad, the 3 was the only model which could output genuine 1080p. Lightning has been a backward step in this regard.

sorry if posted in the wrong location - can anyone confirm if the A5 sportback SE trim (no tech pack) would allow spotify to play over bluetooth? Ive spoken to audi twice and got two different answers. So frustrating.

8V? You've lost me there - sorry The Challinor!

I'm guessing the answer is a no though? ,,, : (

Anyone know why the Apple CarPlay app shows Audi as being compatible? Is this just rubbish? Or are Audi going to work with this? It seems that this would solve everyone's problems!

I asked my dealer and he suggested that it wouldn't be available until late 2015, to early 2016 and would not be an update to the current A3/S3. But then he also added that little is known by the dealers at this time.

Thanks for the info. One final question, forgetting spotify, would the A5 (SE Sportback) simply be able to play bluetooth audio from the phone (HTC at present). I was told that SE A5 sportback models would only be able to play BT audio provided the nav-system was included, but the advice was conflicted to say the least. However, seen as though the car is equipped with BT for calls I thought that wirelessly playing music stored on the phone would be a given? Massive own goal if not!

Basically you'd be lucky to see it updates for spotify. They updated connect for the 2015 A6 / A7 with Aupeo and Napster integration but up to now not even brought that to the 8V

It should work fine otherwise it's through the mmi lead. You can use Spotify with it but can't jump playlists etc.

even with standard mobile / bluetooth preparation - or would i need low/high etc...?

that was the last one i promise : )

Sorry to wake an old post... Just wondering if the MMI has had an update yet? Can you still not skip songs in Spotify?
Also if there has been an update can anyone get it? Ie people without the tech pack..!
Cheers,

I haven't read all the posts in this topic, sorry, but I have always been able to skip tracks through Spotify since my first Audi, which was a first generation A1 TFSI with a few options, one being tech pack high. I also have tech pack high on my current S3 and have never once experienced any playback issues. I am able to seek forward and back in tracks with ease and it doesn't jump around when I stop, skip tracks forward and back and this also abides by the apps shuffle rules, whereas others don't. I do find the MMI on the S3 to be exceptional, vastly improved compared to that of my A1. Seek functionality was very unreliable on my A1.

I have always connected my iPhone to the car via Bluetooth and have never used the supplied cables from Audi, as I used one with my previous iPhone and the lightning adapter on Audi's plug and it caused damage to the phones internal charger mount, so it wouldn't charge anymore.

Edit: remember hearing my dealer tell me my MMI was updated last time I had some warrenty work done. Although it did function as described above before this update.

Bluetooth no problems, its using the AMI cable.
I wonder if you can get the previous update notes...

Using mmi cables can be problematic. For me it will play though MMI but you can't use the mmi to change playlists or search for artests. 99% of the time it won't update the name of the song playing 1% of the time is just says loading but still plays the songs. Far from the near perfect bmw setup but does the job.

I could deal with that.... All I would be happy with is that you can skip tracks within the playlist..!
My girlfriends got a brand new a1 and it's terrible cannot even do that..!
So was hoping when I get my A3 Sept this wouldn't be the case!

Yes you can skip tracks on Bluetooth and ami cable. Soundcloud works well on ami if you use that

Oh that's good then... I wonder why the A1 cannot? Strange

Dragging an old thread up.

Tried to use Spotify on my iPhone through the AMI cable and skipping the track skipped straight to my podcasts instead.

Incredibly frustrated they can't get it right.

Has anyone had any joy using Apple Music?

In case anyone comes past this thread in future... you can "sort of" do it with the AMI cable. You need to turn the dial up/down a couple of songs and then press down. For me the "songs" show as duplicates of the current song so you're basically flying blind but it will at least skip...

Totally confused. why would anyone use that? Spotify via Bluetooth works fine in my PFL A3. Controls on wheel work ok too.

Great! good to kn0w, what year and model of MMI do you have? others might have older models and different versions which don't support this out of the box.

The people in this thread are talking about the fact that playlists are not visible on the MMI. Functionality still exists via bluetooth or via plugging in the cable, but you re not able to select specific songs on the MMI, only on the phone. I think you need Car Play to have the app show on the MMI screen. My MMI is the base model, MMI Low i think its called. No tech pack or other add ons.

The link you provided was for an item with adds bluetooth via the USB or MMI socket, which is pointless as I'm pretty sure all A3 8V's came with bluetooth connectivity?

You are correct i'm sure, sorry was just trying to help anyone with an older 1st or 2nd gen who came across this thread and wanted to have something similar to the newer 3rd gen models. I know that the older gen bluetooth did not support music over A2DP and just supported calls.
