What Exhaust for v8 S5

I picked up my manual V8 S5 at the weekend and want to get an exhaust to show of the v8. Whats available in the uk market.

These are the exhaust I have found

Milltek non resonated about £850 fitted

Awe track exhaust £1605 plus fitting

Akrapovic slip on and link pipe about 2k plus fitting

Are their any others on the market and why are the AWE and Akrapovic so much more than a milltek ?
 
There are also Scorpion / Capristo, but again they are very expensive.

I'm tempted to go the custom route and see if I can get a fabricator to tweak the existing system to make it sound just a touch more viceral.

I don't get the universal love for Milltek products. They're not all bad by any means, but some of their exhausts drone (from experience), and since they've outsourced some of their manufacturing (now they produce exhausts for just about everything that moves), I've seen clear evidence in owners threads that quality control must have taken a dive.

There are a number of brands I'd choose over them, especially when S5 exhausts cost as much as they do.

Add STASIS and MTM to your list.

I guess everyone goes for the Milltek because of the cost due to it being half the price of the others like MTM AWE etc and their is anything else on the market the same price as the milltek.

I would like the Awe system but it was £1605 + £650 for the downpipes and another £215 for fitting I just cant bring myself to spend that amount on an exhaust

I'm with you, my whole system on the S3 only cost £1100 and that was a strain for a bit of glorified drain pipe (and some cats)!

If I can get one of the silencer boxes modified to get a bit more fizz, then get some customised tail pipes then that will be it, done. The performance benefits on this kind of system are quite limited against the spend, I'd rather do the Stg1+ map and a pulley.

A milltek cat back and downpipes from AMD is £1128 fitted so the AWE is double. Im going to get a price for a full custom exhaust as I think I could get a custom exhaust for less than the milltek.

Where about's do you live donk. I got my exhaust custom made just out of Glasgow. It sounds awesome. Cost less then the milltek. I have heard of people having problems with the milltek loosening off as well, had to take it back to get tightened. What is your email address, I can send you a video clip of the sound if you like.

I went and saw a local exhaust company today and going back with my car on Saturday to get a quote as he couldn't give me a price without seeing it.
 
I got a quote for a custom exhaust from zero exhausts.

from the downpipes back it was £800 plus vat

The exhausts look very good quality all tig welded and he makes his only silencers the only thing is you have to book 5 weeks in advance to get a booking as he is so busy.

I had a Milltek and the drone was unbearable (for me). I switched to a Capristo and all was good.

Where abouts outside glasgow? Im from there myself and looking to get a new exhaust on my s5, having the same issue cant decide which way to go, any chance of the sound clip if you dont mind?

What Milltek system did you have? downpipes + catback? also resonated or non resonated? also if you dont mind me asking, how much did your Capristo system cost? Thanks :)
 
My manual S5 had a non resonated cat back Miltek system on when i bought the car, sounded lovely from outside but in the car below 2k revs the drone in the cabin was unbearable so I purchased the resonated mid section and although an improvement over the non res, was still way to much drone for me, it really did make my head vibrate. I have since had this all removed and a second hand oem system fitted which means the sound is now the other way around, nice and quiet on the inside but not loud enough from outside.
Like others on here, I would like the AWE Touring system but justifying the cost is the difficult bit.

Statis and supersprint? Supersprint do an epic system for the S6. so surely that would also fit the S5

Not sure you can still buy STASIS as they're no longer trading. Not sure if Revotechnik have the IP rights to go on producing these as they now own the trading name.

Picked up my S5 the other month and looking for an exhaust system (debating whether to go down the custom route). Does anyone have a decent clip of a miltek non res, as the ones on the net aren't that great, some of the clips I have of my stock exhaust sound better than it. Really tempted to go down the Armytrix route but then I just think that £3500 could have went towards an RS5!?

Got to say, the tips look great! Does anyone directly sell them in the UK? Where did you get yours? Tried to find a supplier and they all seem to be from the US and ship them out.
 
Got mine from Regal Motorsport...think they are based Southhampton...speak to Ash,he will steer you in the right direction

Cheers mate. Haven't got a clip of your system have you? Is it a lot louder than stock?
 
:thumbs up:No sound clips done yet but if you google...regal motorsport awe tuning video AudiS5,it should show a 40second clip which is pretty accurate for sound.
Yes it's much better sounding than the stock system...should be at the price!
No drone at all throughout the Rev range,just a beautiful cacophony of sound from the pipes! I love it!
 
Got intouch with them, and viewed the video. Is there a reason why you chose the touring over the track? I'm tempted to go for the track, even if he did advise to get it if it's only a weekend car. I want that v8 roar! Don't know if the DP's would be necessary as well though?
 
The Track sounds really good and loud but i was concerned about it being just tooo much!if its not a problem with the level of noise then go for it....think it wake the devil up with DP as well!!
Quality is really good on them too
.Dont think i need the DP on the touring as im really happy with the sound it gives...

Hi there , just picked up your thread on the AWE exhaust system . I am also considering a trip to Regal as I am close to Southampton. But not bought the car yet !, hence my post to you .... Cheeky question but your car is my favourite colour , however seems rare to find with right spec and there are way more black cars out there.... Don't surpose you are considering selling anytime in near future?. ! Cheers AL

It's my favourite colour too! "Ming Blue" with cream leather and lots of upgrades.
Thanks for the interest but just bought the car recently and had the AWE touring exhaust from Regal and would highly recommend getting this done as one of your first mods.
Trust me in saying that it transforms the sound of the car no end...grin factor everytime you drive it!
Build quality and fit are excellent as well.

Happy hunting for the right car and just go place that order for the AWE with Ash in the meantime!
