ok, the car in question is a 2006 a4 b7 1.9tdi 115bhp. Just had a new clutch and flywheel kit fitted by the local main dealer. 2 days later I had to return it because it was lurching in 1st gear and trying to move when the clutch pedal was fully pressed, and could not engage 5th
Got the car back and main dealer reckons the just had to bleed the clutch and adjust a selector by 1mm.car drives fine.
Now, 3 days later back to the problem of not being able to engage 5th.
Before the clutch and flywheel change, there was no problems with selecting any gears.
Dealer is now telling me it's a gearbox fault and nothing to do with them.
Can anyone offer any advice please as to what could be wrong, or how to get audi to acknowledge the fault is relative to the clutch change (imo)
Cheers

Don't know, but I would think if it was the release bearing that the problem would be happening in fifth??
Cheers for the input though

Was just thinking of the original creeping issue

Your best bet is to take to a local vag specialist,or any good garage and ask them to identify the problem ,as the main dealer is absolutely useless.
if the car has a waranty on it, then after you get to know what the problem is you can either: go back to audi and tell them to fix this and that exactly,or ... if there's no waranty on the car just get someone, anyone else to fix it.
I personally avoid audi, their services, advice etc.. as they tried to pull money of out my pocket for silly things in the past.

I would say the gear linkage is still not adjusted correctly.

No warranty on the car, but now that they have fitted the clutch and flywheel, there is 2 years warranty on that aspect. The gearbox was working perfectly before this so as far as I'm concerned IT should work perfectly now.
Will drop the car to them in the morning and see how it goes. No decent Indy where I live, they are few and far between, plus most of the independents charge as much as the dealers. Was quoted €750-€900 to replace the clutch and flywheel by 3 independants. Audi did it with an oil change & oil filter for €700

Well, brought it back to Audi this morning. The verdict this evening is that it's something 'in the gearbox'
They have removed the linkage and operated the box manually and still can't engage fifth. They think something might have slipped internally when they had it out to do the clutch. Sounds like a bag of s##t to me.
They are going to remove the box tomorrow to take a look through the inspection plate, and if there is nothing obvious they are going to split the box for further inspection:blownose::audibash:

Well audi split the gearbox today, seems the selector for fifth is out of place by 2mm and it can't engage.
They are ordering the parts from Germany as not in stock in Ireland or the UK, but thankfully they are covering the expense:beerchug:
Don't know why, but don't care either. Now just to wait to get it back

Seems they have indirectly admitted blame for this.

Glad to hear it's getting sorted

Ha, certainly sounds like it. They must have got something wrong when adjusting the the rods from the stick to the box. Cheers mate.
It certainly makes a change for them.

Wouldn't be surprised if somebody got happy with a hammer trying to loosen the gearbox linkage joint or similar. These kinds of things don't just happen.

Well finally got the car back today. It was described as a ball joint unit in the gearbox that was out of play by about 2mm and restricted fifth from engaging???
It's driving sweet as a nut now, so I can finally test the new clutch and flywheel and most importantly this didn't cost anything extra :applaus:

Glad you got it sorted, a lot of places would have probably fobbed you off and said it was unrelated.
