Hi all.I am looking for 5500k d3s xenon bulbs. Can anyone recommend a uk supplier for this type of bulb.I have looked on "the bay" but am a bit weary of buying cheap(possibly cr*p) Chinese copies.Any help would be appreciated ..Thanks Paul....

I bought some 8000k ones from ebay
a pair for £25

Cant complain, great colour, no flickering. Had them in there good few months

Cheers for the reply Omy193.I still think it,s a bit of a gamble (minefield:flush:) when you buy from ebay.. I have been told that 5500k is the best compromise between the blue look and effectiveness of light at night. What do you or anyone else think? Also I would like to know if you can change out both bulbs without having to take front bumper off? My car is a 2010 black edition with led daytime lights..:)

To be honest the 8000k xenons i have look blue when you look at them from the outside but when driving looks like a bright white light with a slight hint of blue.
6000k will be the best bet i reckon, pure white.

I had them fitted to my pre-facelift a3 with bi-xenons.
A friend of mine works at a garage and he put the car on the ramp and took off the front two wheels and changed them from behind the wheel arch liner so it is possible without removing the bumper but not easy lol.

One of the sides (driver i think) can be done from the engine bay with difficulty but passenger side is near impossible from the engine bay

Cheers mate.Thought it was going to be difficult:( "oh! for a set of ramps" and a garage of my own LOL

I don't know what car have you got but I would check in manual how to remove light. In my a4 from 2008 I can take out lights without taking off bumper. It is in my manual with the picture what screws need to go out.

Hi bonifacy87. The car I have is an A3 sportback Black Edition.

Don't a3's have problems with the wiper motors burning out when fitting aftermarket HIDS?

Pretty sure the bulb will not cause this! It's the aftermarket ballasts that blow the motors with power surges etc.. Someone correct me if I'm wrong as I don't have them but in fairness I can't even see HOW a bulb could do this (of course an utterly shocking bulb could surge but c'mon..)

If you have factory fitted xenons then throw any bulb you like in without problems. Tho 5500k is a bit blue for me. 4300 is best output

4300k if you want to actually see where you're going. Good few threads on this I think. There was actually also a very recent post about how to identify fake HID bulbs.
