Hi
I have owned my a4 1.8 turbo quattro sport for sometime now and I am looking into lowering her.
I don't want to go down the coilover route so a nice set of springs will do me nicely.
I have heard through various forums that the TQS is already lowered 30mm from the factory.
My question is if I was to buy 40mm springs would the be lowered by 40mm or just 10mm?
I can find springs for sale for the quattro A4's but not for the TQS redline.
I dont fancy going through all that hassle of swapping out the springs for a mere 10mm drop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated because this is preventing me from fitting my new wheels.
Cheers in advance

What's a red line? Tqs is 20 mm lower than se. So 40mm should lower it by an additional 20 mm. finding 1.8t quattro genetic loeeting springs is the hard bit as it was quite a rare model so parts fetch a premium

As above, all lowering springs are quoted against the factory "normal" ride height. So if a car has factory sport suspension, it will lower less than the specified amount.

There is a redline under the A4 badge. From what I've gathered looking online it is some sort of limited edition.
I don't know. I originally wanted an S4 but this came along super cheap with only 83k, mapped, full stainless, recaros and full Audi service history so couldn't say no really. I love it.
What's a good set of coilovers then?
I had joms on my passat and those weren't all that bad, but would want something better.

In europe and the US, A4's were commonly sold in quattro trim with the 1.8T. Here in the UK though, the quattro system was only ever applied to the 2.8 V6 engine (barring diesels). In ~99 Audi UK produced a limited edition "1.8T Quattro Sport" for the UK market, which had various chassis tweaks lifted from the S4, and a retuned 1.8T producing 180hp. On here they're commonly known as "TQS".

Eibach Pro Street are reasonable budget coilovers. I wouldnt buy anything cheaper than those though.

TBH , a set of Eibach Pro-kit springs has mine sitting pretty nicely, despite the claimed drop not being that large.

In reality, you wouldnt really want to go any lower, as it already scrapes over most speedbumps etc. Eibach do sell lower springs under the "Sportline" name though, if you want to drop it further.

Thanks for your reply Aragorn.
That is the drop I'm looking for nothing too excessive. Are both these phots with the eibach pro kits springs? And what drop did that give you? And are those 1.8 tqs's?

Yeh they're both 1.8TQS' on Eibach Pro-Kit springs.

Not sure on the actual drop, as the rear springs were broken on both cars before i started.

They both sit just below 25" from arch lip to the ground, so you can compare that with yours so long as your on standard 630mm tyres.

Nice one I think I will go for the springs then. I'm running 18" rs4 wheels so should look nice. Looking on eBay they all seem to be 30mm drops and the sportlines are 30mm rear and 40/50mm front.

Go for sportlines. Had them on my leon and it was a nice drop.

A 30mm drop will be spot on for me.
I can't go too low because of all the speed bumps in my area.

30mm springs will not drop your car by 30mm if it is the same suspension like our TQS.

My car is currently lowered 40-45mm front.

What make are those springs slepy and what are the rears lowered by?

I have H&R coilovers set for about 45mm drop.

I'm looking into adjustable dampening coilovers now. The reason I sold my passat is because I got fed up with the harsh ride commuting to work everyday.

Slepy, did you actually look at my pics :p

My car looks about the same height as yours, and its on the pro-kit springs mentioned above.

One thing to be aware of is ensuring you order the springs for cars "without Aircon". If you buy the aircon springs it sits stupid for some reason.

You cant go wrong with the pro-kit springs.

Is this what your on about?

Yep.

Basically the maximum front axle load of a TQS is slighty above the 995kg those springs have TUV approval for, so they instead give you front springs designed for a V6 petrol, which makes it sit stupid. If you order the "without AC" springs, they include the correct 4 cylinder front springs instead!

Nice one thanks for your help.
I think I'll get those in the new year.

So how is it that with 30mm springs you have similar drop to mine? I have about 30mm left on the coilover so it is dropped 40mm from se height. Pro kit lowers 30mm from se height so 10mm on tqs? I would love to drop mine a bit more but I struggle to get on my driveway already. Plus, I think I will struggle with ET33 and 8" wheel at the front.
