hi, I should be upgrading to stage 2+ on Saturday and have a few questions if people could answer them for me please -

1. From what I have read/found on google etc I may need to replace the pencil coils as it could cause them to break down at some point due to extra strain. My car is a facelift model with a mileage below 30k so would this still be an issue, as the posts I have read seem to be on pre facelift cars with higher mileage and assume it more down to them being slightly worn and the upgrade pushing them over the edge?

2. Do the plugs need upgrading at all? I recently changed to NGK PFR7S8EG plugs when I went to stage 2 but possibly 1 step colder would be better as I don't have an upgraded intercooler yet?

anyone gone from stage 2 to 2+ ? was it still a big change?

thanks for the replies

I wouldn't change anything... You'll soon know if there is a problem. Best way to test is boot in in 4th gear to redline.

I'm on stage 2+ running stock plugs, stock clutch. Pulls like a train.. plugs are fairly cheap just change them every service or 10k.

Haha yeah what mph does 4th do when redlined? Must be 110+ dont fancy risking that on a public road!

How long have you been running on the stock clutch?
Mines being taken to stage 2+ tomorrow :D
mine too :)

Thanks for all the replies

So far its been on stage 2+ for about 1000 miles.. it slipped a few times the days after the map in 4th gear but since then its been solid and it has been driven hard often. No launches mind.

Red line in 4th is approximately 120..

Stg2+ is quite a decent step over Stg2 especially in the midrange where the extra torque thanks to the uprated HPFP is noticeable.

How ya get on Cam? I'm well chuffed with mine mate :)

I spent all day at Lvs Racing in Lincoln which are VW/Audi specialists and I had my car booked in for a general service with oil change and I wanted the haldex serviced at the same time!
The car was taken for a test run first and data logged to see if there were any underlying issues. Unfortunately my fuel presure was dropping off to 50 bar and it should keep to above 130 bar at all times. This can be dangerous on the engine as it will run very lean so it needed sorting.

Pat then told me that the autotech HPFP wouldn't be enough to compensate so he offered to fit the rs4 valve at the same time! It's a time consuming job but was needed for my remap of Revo stage 2+.
I went ahead with it and agreed to have the rs4 valve installed.

Once the rs4 valve had been fitted, it was time to datalog the car again. It definately made a difference but needed that autotech HPFP to hit the 130bar which is needed.

With the RS4 valve and the autotech HPFP installed, it was time for another data log. This time the target of 130bar was reached and they were happy with the way my car was running!

They were a bit surprised though with how quick, powerful and aggressive my car was with just a stage 1 map from a different tuner. They were concerned that it was producing so much power but running so lean that it could have been put down to the map I had on it. But they did emphasise that they don't slag off different tuners and maps which I thought was very professional of them.

Pat then brought me out to my car whilst there mechanic was servicing my car on the ramp and going over a few things with me regarding my hardware, exhaust etc.

Once the rs4 valve had been fitted, which took a while, and then the service was completed, it was finally time to take my car up the road a few times to make sure everything was running well and to adjust the boost, timing and fuel.
Good job they have a duel carriageway just outside there workshop/garage lol. (Nice touch)
They started off with boost 9 timing 6 and fuel 6 but the car pulled a bit harder and more consistently with boost 8, timing 5 and fuel 6.

It was then time to hand over the wonger and hit the road for the hour and a half drive home! Now this is what I was looking forward to but the road was now wet and the darkness had set in :-/
I got onto the dual carriageway and I instantly noticed the car was smoother, and pulled a lot harder in 3rd gear upwards!
My whole journey home I was buzzing with the fact that I knew this car now felt FAST!
The car I would say is as aggressive as the last map I had in 1st gear but a lot smoother now and has a lot more power and the needle in the Rev limiter now pulls hard all the way into the red line!

Roll on the dry weather now for me to test her out properly!

All in all well happy with the remap, how it was set up and installed and the time and dedication it took to get my car running the best it could run!

Thanks for the reply, thats exactly right.

I have been running stage 2 now for maybe 2 months before i decided to buy the hpfp and go for stage 2+. The only thing putting me off was the clutch but came to the conclusion that if i need to get it in 5k miles then i will have to.
The settings i had on stage 2 were-
B7 T6 F9
I did some data logging with vcds and upped the boost to 8 but with this it was pulling timing by 5-5.5 so went back to B7. I always run the car on vpower 99 and as F9 is a request only i believe its best to leave it on that.
These are also the current settings for my stage 2+ and haven't had time to do a few runs yet but will as a member wants to come pair the results to his stage 2 airtec intercooler.
Now for the difference :)
When i first got in the car and drive it down the road the only real difference i felt was that it picked up that little bit quicker. Once i reached the motorway i could then tell exactly the difference the fuel pump made with the map, even without stage 2+ i could feel the difference instantly. The best way i could describe it is if you run at B7 then it like turning it up to 8 when around town and normal driving but when you get to the midrange its like turning it up to 9. When in third gear and above 2500 rpm the car pulls with about 30% more urgency than stage 2.
Of course this is all in my opinion and others may think differently and from what i have read if you have an uprated clutch then it will put out more torque so once that's upgraded i assume i will feel more power.

I was going to quote you for the above reply but you wrote a detailed review haha.
what year is your s3 mate?

Good write up, I went stage 2 on Friday which is lovely but already thinking about the next step :), how much was the rs4 valve?

Mines a 2007 but with only 37k on the clock and immaculate :)

The rs4 valve without looking was quite expensive with fitting!
All receipts are at home and I'm at work atm!
Maybe Pat from Lvs Racing could step in here.

From memory the rs4 valve is about £40 and takes about 1.5 hours to fit.
Fairly straightforward DIY job if you have the tools and patience

Thanks for the response ill have to look into the rs4 valve then, if not just to be on the safe side. I'll try and get some vcds readings tomorrow and update.

I've been running Stage 2+ for 6 months now running standard plugs. Never missed a beat. Can't help with the clutch as I have DSG.
