my car is on revo stage 2 with revo intake/full miltek and was thinking of changing the intercooler before changing to stage 3 in 6 months or so but was wondering if anyone could tell me what gains I would be looking at if they have done it? I assume around 10bhp?

thanks

I had the 1st intercooler produced for facelift models from Forge.

It gained 22bhp on the same dyno the very next day after fitting it.

Well worth doing.

Hang on then.

Used to be in their website.

But I have them somewhere. 2 secs.

Before:

314.5bhp

After:

336.5bhp

Only changes between dynos were the DV valve and Forge Intercooler.

336.5bhp - 314.5bhp = 22bhp.

Nice! To be fair, the stock ic had to deal with a slightly warmer ambient temp... I never would have expected the ic to make such a difference.

After Forge had it for 2 weeks it felt like a different car altogether. So much more willing to go.

I'd definitely do it if you haven't already.

At some point in March/April 2015 mine wil be coming off when I sell the car.

So it'll be up for grabs.

I agree with this as Statller Dyno'd a tuned ed30 before and after and the difference was around the 30bhp level which i was gob smacked at also

Intake temps would be improved sognificantly i guess thuss car performs much better and power increase go for it mate specially if stage2+ is in the pipework, not seen figures for an s3 with forge twintercooler anyone running one ?

Well it definitely looks like i need one in my life haha. I wonder if the max bhp on revos site includes one on the stage 2+ figures. It says recommend but not in the requirements.
Thanks for all the replies

If your Revo stage 2+ I'd be interested in your max air mass reading on vcds.
I've done logs on mine with a airtec stage 2 intercooler

Well i have vcds and i would be interested too. Ill try to get the readings on Tuesday and let you know

My settings are B8 T5 F6
3rd gear pull from 1500 rpm to limiter outside temp was about 11 degrees

There are certainly gains even from a straight bhp view, but the biggest gain is on a really hot day,or on a long run, where heatsoak becomes much less of an issue, and most importantly, you don't LOSE power as things heat up.

I had twintercooler on stg2+ b9 t4 f9 and maf readings were 270+ g/s all day long on a hot summer day. And now it's been taken off..but there's definitely bennefit from upgrading the cooler.

In a previous thread but worth a read again ... http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180325

The only one missing from the review is the ProAlloy, which is a welded aluminium IC like the Forge.

The Wagner has the largest frontal area in that review, and is 6% larger over that area than the stock S3 IC,whereas the ProAlloy has 16.5% greater area, and the core depth is as deep as the Wagner.

The ProAlloy keeps intake temps to within 4C of ambient, where the stock cooler can only manage 16C.

So proalloy is even better than wagner?

Well......using the formula on that review for calculating internal volume, the ProAlloy is a little bigger than the Wagner, and certainly the frontal area is a bit bigger also, but I think the real point is that those 2 are the best of the bunch.

Yes they are. Since i've removed twintercooler i'm looking for options for a new cooler...

I noticed a gain after fitting a eurojet intercooler - not just in hot weather either, although my S3 is a facelift so had plastic end tanks.

I don't question Forge's quality, and I had one of their very well made catch cans, but I never got the point of add-on intercoolers,as opposed to one larger, better one.....but of course it's well made and it does work.

I had it before any other options were developed..

I understand....I was one of the first with the ProAlloy.

There simply wasn't an alternative before other than the Forge.
