Hi,

Just wondered if anyone's fitted one of the many aftermarket gloss black surround mesh grilles available on ebay etc? Can anyone recommend a good quality one that fits straight on no mods what so ever? I have 2006 s line avant by the way.

Thanks in advance
Steve

if you find a source of good ones, let me know as i'm on the lookout for something suitable aswell.

Do you mean one of these Steve?

If so ,then NO!
These won't fit an S-line model as they too small.

I saw those yes, picked up on fact they're not for s lines. Seen a few about that do, but not sure of their quality.

Ideally ( suppose I should have said before) it would be de-bagged also. But not that bothered about that

yes, that one looks very possible, i supose it would be nice to know if anyone here has one fitted allready to be honest, maybe some fitted pics and fitting feedback would help with a purchasing descision.

I just phoned stoke audi, they told me the black optics mesh grille wont fit s line model without having rs4 bumper fitted which may also need new wings. Is this correct?

They did say there is a Phantom Black grille (black with gloss black surround) for the s lines which comes in at £273, OUCHY OUCH!!!

LoL that's funny.
I wonder how would they explain this then....

Its a genuine RS4 grille fitted to an S-line bumper--- straight replacement, no modification of any kind needed.

Thanks, will be back on the phone to price this up then.

****** nice that is tom. Mines silver too so at least I know it's money well spend as that looks well smart.

Is yours 2.0tfsi ?

Don't suppose you have the part number for that do you?

Did the grille come with black surround and is it gloss or matt black? Can't quite make it out from the picture

Doh! Just seen your signature obviously you have 2.0tfsi Quattro, I've only got the 2.0 tdi s line will there be a difference between bumpers on different models do you think?

no there should not be a difference to the bumpers /body S-line is S-line.
To be on a safe side check ur bumper against the one on the pic see if they look the same.
I bought the RS4 grille from ebay without any surround at all, so i used the one from my original s line grille , sprayed it gloss black myself.

Pretty much as above, Only two different grill sizes for the A4 regardless of engine size etc.

Grill on left is for S Line bumper(same as Toms) which is exactly same size as RS4

Grill on right is for a non S Line(SE) or DTM bumper.

Unfortunately there's no OEM honeycomb RS4 style grill for the SE, I have doubts as to if the Ebay ones etc will look/fit decent. I've decided to chop a OEM RS4 down to fit into a SE grill for my DTM bumper.

Right thanks gents just got to find a picture/registration for rs4 now as I know dealer will want a reg before he can give me part number / quote!

Black RS4 grill with black surround , 8E0853651AFVMZ

Black RS4 grill but with chrome surround, 8E0853651L3FZ

You're a star thanks, I imagine I'm gonna need to be sitting down when I ask!

Do you know if I need to get filler plate or is it included?

Pretty sure the filler plate is extra and I wouldn't expect any change from £500!!! Shocking price for a piece of plastic, prices do fluctuate a bit tho. Give Stoke Audi a try in the advertisers section, great service and sometimes a bit cheaper.

Just spoke with Rich at Stoke Audi, I cross matched my front bumper part number with Tom.S's front bumper part number (used the car registration from your picture Tom). They are the same so I have the confidence that a genuine RS4 grille part number 8E0853651AFVMZ (thanks for p/n ajax1976) will fit mine no probs.

If anyone's interested S Line front bumper part numbers (based on Tom.S & My registrations - B7 S Line's) are:
8E0 807 105 E GRU
8E0 807 105 F GRU (with headlight washers)
8E0 807 105 G GRU (with parking sensors)
8E0 807 105 H GRU (with headlight washers & parking sensors)

Oh and the best price they could do for the RS4 grille (8E0853651AFVMZ) £434.76 incl vat
Filler plate if needed is £56.57 incl vat

I'd better start saving:lmfao:

Just keep looking on ebay/car breakers.. I managed to get hold of my RS4 grille in less then 3 weeks of searching at the cost of £130 (posted to my door).

Been looking in vain for a used rs4 grille then came across this for £350. Its made of ABS plastic (is that good or bad?) and includes rs4 style grille, filler plate and fog light grilles. Its supposed to fit straight on with no mods (I'm trying to research this though).

What do you think

I think they look pretty cool from the front but don't really match up from a side profile, would also be a bit sceptical of the quality and fitment but I'm just speculating from previous aftermarket bumper experience.

Get an RS4 black optics grille, got one myself but it'll (hopefully) be fitted to the car at some point.

Yeah that's my concern I'm trying to get hold of a picture of one fitted to a car showing the side view.

Its a bit drastic but I was thinking of getting the body shop to fill in the vents at the side to soften it a little for that very reason.

The thing is, it'll be about £200 - 300 more expensive if I buy rs4 black optics grille + filler and modified rs4 fog grilles then get existing bumper re-sprayed. Especially as the guy selling says he has one with damage that he will knock £100 off the price if I wanted that.

Go for a DTM front or get an RS4 grille :icon thumright: aftermarket bumpers and grilles are ok but nothing beats what the Audi's already handed us for quality, fitment and look.

if you deffo want to go down the whole bumper/grill route, what about this, i may invest in one as they do look good and not over kill, when painted up i think they will be just the job.

exactly, thats why it looks right in my opinion....... its not oem but looks to be a good aftermarket version.

Tbh the more I look at them all the more I dislike them.

try this one rather its abs plastic too, just like the oem bumpers and it seems to be an exact copy of the b7 rs4 bumper not to mention looks so much better the the one above..
Rs4 grille at £500 it is them :scared2:

why worry there's one for sale on fleabay atm it has a damage on the outer chrome surround, but shouldn't be a problem just use the one from your current s-line grille..
oh and sits there at £70 right now so go fight for it...

Safe bet that it'll end over £150, broken mesh is a bit of a deal breaker for a new grille too.

Thanks Tom seen that grille a few days ago it's got damage to the honeycomb too and the filler plate looks wonky too. It's on my watch list already

We're you supposed to have added a link to another bumper?

This is one I got from the states, had it painted gloss black, mine is an s-line but with and SE bumper, it's been on the car for 2 years now, I've still not got around to fitting the bumper correctly (it needs to be lifted. Think it cost £75 for the grill and £50 for the paint work, I'm more than happy with the look.

Thanks for all your help guys. Got on the blower to various people selling these and other aftermarket bumpers and they were all honest with me saying I will have some adjusting to do and may have issues with fitment of under tray/wheel arch liners/grilles etc. there honesty has pushed me towards just staying OEM, so my search for rs4 grille continues. If I don't get lucky by next February I'll just fork out with my bonus next year and buy new.
