I've got tired of listening to the same old cd's and I don't have any tapes anymore, so I want to change the head unit over. I know very little about the setup within the car and I'm a little wary about changing anything, before learning a little first. Is it just a swap over with a harness adapter, or is if far more complicated than that? I've done car installs before, but very simple straight forward ones, so I'm confident I can do the work, just so long as I'm not having adapt and re-wire things.

Any help guys

Many thanks

Im unsure about the A6 on this one - however on my B6 A4 I replaced the Symphony II for a Symphony II+ from a B7 A4, this vastly improved sound quality and allowed me to play MP3 CD's.
I purchased a Kufatec wiring adaptor as the B7 Symphony II+ is canbus - it was a simple plug & play!
It also modernised the interior as there is no tape-deck on the Symphony II+

Unsure of this can be done on the A6 - but if it can then I would definatley recommend it.

That sounds good, but my ambition is to connect my iPod or phone into the stereo. Possibly add some subwoofers too. Can the symphony II do that? I'm hopeful, but not holding my breath. :))

P.s how do I tell if it's Bose or half amplified? Nothing is obvious. :)

have a look at the brown connector on the back of the stereo:
- Missing = Bose
- 4 wires = half amp
- 8 wires = non amplified

This image is Half amplified - The Amplifier connection is on the multiple connector at the top.
