Hello dudes, doing this tomorrow on my APY S3. just have a couple questions, basically I only intended changing the spark plug inner ring gasket and obviously the outer one but after some google searching it would appear that the cam chain tensioner gasket is prone to leaking.

Only want to do this once as I believe it's a bit of pita for the DIY mech like myself, so basically I did a little investigation on my engine block and it was quite obvious there was oil leaking out the right side, looked real nasty.

Has anyone got experience with cam chain ten gasket leaking? Is it common?

Yes they are prone to leaking and it's an audi only part, you get the small seal for under the tensioner and a half moon seal, you'll also need the special tool for releasing the tensioner and a small tube of sealant.

This should give you an idea of whats involved.

Thanks rupe. Thanks a really helpful link that. I've decided am just gonna changed the gaskets I have then if the leakage continues then off again and will do tensioner one.

Is it advised to use gasket sealant on this type of job, think I read a thread earlier where it was advised just to apply the sealant on the corners or something along those lines.?

The cam chain tensioner gasket is not an Audi only part and is available after market as well, here's a link to one I just found from doing a 30 second search on ebay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/1912...1=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108&ff19=0

Also if you are going to tackle it you most definitely don't need the cam chain tensioner tool, but it does help. I've rebuilt 20v heads without it.

You won't need any sealant for the cam cover gasket so long as you use a new one, you will however need a small amount of sealant if you do decide to tackle the tensioner gasket. Good luck what ever you decide to do! :icon thumright:

I most definitely do need the cam chain tensioner tool! Why? Because I'm **** with a bag of spanners. Lol. think there only couple quid anyway for universal type one. As I said won't bother changing CCT gasket, so all that's for another day. Might as well give rocker cover lick of paint while I'm at. Anyone recommend paint?

Thanks for the link on the gasket also helpful advice regarding the sealant.

I'm in the same boat. Leaking a little from there but just replaced the rocker cover gasket seems like mine is still leaking a little in the corners. Does anyone put sealant there to help?

Looks like it's leaking some oil in 3 of the 4 corners... Genuine gasket too. Might redo it all along with the cam tensioner one too. Yes got the headrest all well! Thanks again! We have to meet up for a proper catch up when you feel better dude
