Hi guys just purchased a private plate, can't wait to get it on now. How long does it take roughly? And is sending ally documents and the plate certificate safe in the post or send recorded delivery??

Mine took around 4 weeks. For peace of mind send documents recorded delivery.

I always send recorded

takes between 1 and 4 weeks.

I sent mine off a few weeks back, it took only 8 days to receive docs back.

Mine took about a 8 days, sent recorded.... I guess it depends how busy they are.

Fingers crossed then I will have it on ASAP. Feels like I spent aload of money for nothing at the moment haha, nothing to show for it.

Apparently DVLA have reorganised the cherished transfer department and are returning completed documents within the week, I handed mine in on the Tuesday and documents were back by the Friday.
So as you've mentioned you've spent a load of money on your plate twice, you may as well get it out your system and tell us what plate it is and how much it was? Lol

Bit of an odd question but sort of related, anyone know if private plates can be put down as a business expense? It's a grey area but I plan on having a small tasteful sticker on the back window and a plate that is my business industry name.

Providing the registration you have purchased is bought through your business and going onto a business vehicle then yes you can, registration must relate to your company name or business nature.. It's classed as advertising

Aww fingers crosses then I will have it back next week.

Haha sorry just felt like I have spent money on a number plate sent my certificate away and feels like I got nothing to show for it that's all.

But I did get a bargain tho. The plate in CRA 165X :)

With all the cut backs there are now only two staff at the DVLA.

sent my SORN off on the 28th September and the car has only just been registered SORN :-s

There's different departments in the DVLA to deal with plates, sorn etc etc.. I can ensure you there's more than 2 staff working there lol.. How much was CRAIGS X ?

Haha ye I would of thought more than 2 lol. Just had to wait won't i. Grrrr.

It was £3500 o_O

I got my private plate from dvla on one of there auctions a month ago and think I got a bargain. . My surname is Wilson and managed to get WYL550N for 400 pounds and then they add assignment fee . Vat . Premium fee and tax on the premium!? And was 600.

Couldn't quite afford VV11 SON was 7500 :0 :0 :0

not a bad plate

but fines and 3rd pull from the police and DVLA will take it back off you.

in Sheffield the cops are ******* us over for wrong plates.

Changed them already and got them done at halfords. Not worth the risk . And hard to notice the difference in spacing anyway as more letters and numbers than your usual private plate.

Big time . I was on there online auction system and 7 vxr went for 8000!? Thought Wilson would go for loads but no one bid!?

No plates on so fair play that was pretty quick!
