How to disassemble headlight switch ( remove button)

Hi,

I've purchased a replacement surround and button (photo attached) for my headlight switch.

I managed to get switch out and remove the outer ring casing but can't figure out how to remove the button. Don't want to just yank at it and break the switch as they are so expensive to replace ( with originals vw ones)

Has anyone done this can you help me out please?

Not sure if I made any sense with my question so hopefully a picture paints a thousand words...

I need to remove the knob from the switch (as highlighted in the attached picture) and was hoping someone has done this before that can advise me please.

Been thinking about this and I reckon if I literally (carefully) break up the knob I will be able to remove it that way as I think I will be able to access the tabs that hold it in place this way.

I just need to pluck up the courage to do it
 
Done it, my method works :yahoo:£10 looks as good as new.

Is there a place to put 'how to' on this forum? I took some pictures whilst doing the repair.
