Hello

your help if you may

i have had the uprated sach clutch fitted last week and gradually since then i have had an issue with the clutch pedal not returning to its original position but this only happens after down changing ie slowing down for lights or to turn a corner etc

Now there are loads of posts about this on forums throughout the VAG scene but with no solution or ending how or what was causing the problem.

It has had everything new and been bled loads of times which i know is not the problem and i know ifs nothing my garage has done as they have fitted loads of these before and including one the day after mine and that is perfect.

The garage has had this problem before and on those vehicles they did all the problem resolving issues on those including taking the new parts out and fitting yet more new parts, swapping the new clutches for yet more new clutches, and even putting the old standard clutches back in to which then the problem would stop, the only way they have cured it is by putting in both another gearbox which they knew were good, now the problem is they don't have another good box.

So maybe its the wear in the boxes which cant cope with the uprated clutch who knows but someone i'm hoping must know something ?

We have tried the gearbox end shim which is available from the dealers but again this also has made no difference.

Hi Leach76,
I had a Sachs uprated clutch fitted a couple of months ago. Then after 2,000 miles of use it started to do the whole clutch peddle staying down routine that you describe so well in your opening post. When it started happening for me I had the master cylinder replaced, then when this had no effect the garage that fitted the clutch re-bled the line a pressure tested it. Unfortunately whilst the system was obviously holding pressure at that time, the problem reoccurred on the way home from the garage. This is incredibly frustrating for the garage and for me as it is now back in with them and they have now taken the gearbox back out but could find no problems which is exactly the same as you. As a precaution they have replaced the slave cylinder.

However having read your post there is a strong possibility that this will not fix the problem. I can't believe it is the gearbox because when the clutch is working there is no problem selecting gears and no noise from the gearbox. The problem is to do with engaging the clutch and the failure of the peddle to rise. I think it would be very helpful if the Audi Specialist I used to fit the clutch could speak to the guys that fitted yours, would you be willing to PM me their contact details.
Many thanks Giles

Cheers for the reply mate
Since then on the way to work I have had trouble engaging 1st gear when I had stopped at lights etc so i have dropped it back round at the garage as its no point me having it for it to become a big broke down stuck in gear in traffic problem.

The only other thing i could maybe think of is the wrong pressure plate or something has been supplied or something along those lines

Thanks Leach76 I hope you get it fixed and thanks for the link to that other thread it is very interesting.

This also maybe worth a read mate and as my garage are going to use mine as a lab rat they are going to try this as it may help them if it works with any issues with them in future plus its also worth a read mate :http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5699167-NLS-02M-clutch-shim-kit-now-for-sale!
then if this doesn't work then i'm sorry to say i'm going back to the standard clutch

also sach's list a slave cylinder of there own but i don't know if this extends any further :

I'm quite worried now after I've had my upgrades done and remap that my clutch will slip and I will be in the sh~t without a paddle, am I reading this right If I upgrade the clutch I may well have problems?

Mate there are thousands that have had no issues and its just the odd one that is happening to, the problem is we or no one seems to know if its something on the odd cars that has worn and not working to the full extent it should,if something is wrong parts wise, the annoying thing as you know on a Quattro to keep trying things is never a 2min job as its everything off to get the gearbox back out.

If we fit the shims on mine and its ok then it might be worth just doing this mod every time one of these clutches is fitted.

It's happening on 02m boxes (quattro) and 02q 2wd
loads of posts on loads of forums even going back to the 8l chasis

Type in google nls shim kit and see how many forum links come up but as you will see its not only happening with the sach ones its a load of after market clutches ( which make you think why don't they just start putting the shims in the kits as this isn't a one of issue.

Like I say the garage I use here in sheffield have a brilliant tuning and working reputation on forums and they have had this issue on various cars but as its my car and I know them well we are trying to get a solution to this issues as with golf R's and S3's still out there he will still be having people asking about clutches fitted and to a customer not on a forum or interested in some investigation work they will think that this is a one off and they have basically ruined his car after giving them a bill.

So does matter what year the is or it effects all years and is random, if that makes sense

From reading what i have its random ,like i say type a description with those words in google and its a mine field over various years

I have fitted loads of the Sachs Sporting 02M clutches, I fitted a specially prepared one with black nitrided flywheel (done by the factory) and a normal Sachs concentric release bearing. I have NEVER EVER had any issue with any Sachs clutch ever in 30 years and certainly have never needed any shims on an 02M. This clutch has gone on a BAM 2 litre with AGU head for a Leon Cupra R and has been in months working fine. I am just about to use the VR6 version in a 4M V6 box converted to FWD into a Mk2 VR6 turbo and I would not use anything else.

I am about to get a spec clutch and do I shim or not?.. I have put doing the clutch off as long as possible as I know it will be a nail bitter as to whether it will work correctly. It is starting to slip though so it has to be done..

Never had any issues with sachs kits either.
I've had them fitted to my last 3 cars without problems.
I've fitted about 8 or 9 in total to vag cars without issue.

Sorry, meant to say I barged in here because Tony of the Leach asked my opinion.

I thank you for your in put Steve and everyone else
But that's the thing obviously some are having this problem and its a big job to strip, check and try and again as it was.

My garage has fitting loads of clutches also to these including the Sach,Loba,Helix,Luk etc so I would be 99.9% sure it's nothing they are doing wrong either.

Thanks for joining the Forum also Steve as your input is always welcome,I hope you hang around.

The good thing with forums is if it does work for me and anyone has this problem in future they might have an idea what to try rather than like some of us are at the minute and stuck without a car because they don't dare to use it.
