Right guys, Iv been into my bikes for a while now... I used to do a lot of trial biking but then got into downhill biking. Basically gave up when I got my car haha.
Iv just built my bike back up and iv recently just got myself another new toy.. Im in need of a bike rack.

I was after a boot mounted one, but I needed the boot space and removing the bike seemed a pain in the backside, So roof mount it is..
Now im scared of scratching the car, but not much else I can do.
Iv been after a set of audi roof bars but they seem really big and bulky. does anyone recommend a set of decent bars? Not to pricey but enough to hold 2 bikes.

Thule all the way. A bit more pricey but top quality.

If you still want to keep the boot accessable Thule do some fancy tow bar mounted racks that swing out of the way so you can get to the boot - would require a tow ar though of course.

From experience I found OEM Audi bars are a better fit on the car than Thules, the Audi ones also have a slightly better foot pad design so a wee bit less likely to damage the paint. With both sets I used I removed them when not in use and never had an issue with paintwork damage. As an extra precaution when using Thules I used to use small rectangles of sticky backed plastic under the feet for a bit extra protection. The main thing is to make sure the roof and feet are spotlessly clean before mounting them.

Yep agree i use thule aerobars too, also have a removable towbar and a thule 3 bike towbar carrier which is good too,the only trouble with thule is that the locks have ***** plastic housing on the bike carriers wtf ?,as if they would stop anyone

thanks guys, ill defo look around like as im in need.
was at bike shop and lad offered me some big what look like glass suction cups.. but are actually designed to hold the bike, im rather temped mas it takes 3 pumps of the handle and its stuck!

£250 quid for a suction pad though haha

i bought @ajax1976 's old oem roof bars and i love them. i had some thule ones on my last car, and found them a) not a nice looking b) hella expensive c) not as versitile...

as far as im aware (correct me if im wrong people) but audi oem are rebranded thule, so you get unreal quality, plus a design that matches the car better than generic thule bar/feet combinations.

second hand you're probably looking at £150-200 for a roof mount set up second hand...good value in my eyes :)

Yeah, separate cycle rack.
Any rack that uses a "T" bolt sliding mount will fit, Audi bars have exactly same groove in them as the Thule bars to accept the "T" bolts so any Thule bike, Ski, Kayak etc carrier will fit the Audi bars too.
I've only ever used Thule carriers so can't comment on other brands of carrier but pretty sure the majority of decent carriers all use the same "T" bolt system.
