So I got a call from the good lady wife today whilst I was at work to say that a whole load of what she assumed to be car parts had just arrived at the house. She assumed this because the biggest box bore the word "intercooler" on the delivery label. Clearly, she's been married to me too long if she's able to identify what an intercooler is. :)

I arrived home this evening to find this little lot waiting for me:

Tearing into the boxes, I was presented with some rather naughty little mods:

IMG 20141106 211346 IMG 20141106 212312 IMG 20141106 213801

So I've now got me some Revo mounts, a Eurojet cooler and a Revo intake. I reckon on a BCS downpipe and cat being next on the acquisition list, with perhaps a Milltek non-res or BCS powervalve sport catback depending on what suits my ears the best. Add to that little lot a HPFP, a K04 and a Revo stage 3 map and I reckon I'll be a happy bunny.;)

I'm new to the Audi scene so would welcome any input on what else I should be considering if I'm looking at upgrading to a K04.

Cheers all

Mark

Car parts should do the same as ann summers or something discreet delivery hahah so u can hide how much ur spending on car parts then u can buy the mrs something every now and then and say that massive box that looked like an exhaust it was theee flowers lol

You should enjoy that little lot.

I sometimes have parts delivered to my work address,or direct to AMD,so that when the car has it's next service(and obviously a quality car should be serviced at least 4 times a year.....)the parts are all lined up waiting.

A separate bank account is also useful.

No need for all that, to be honest. I'm lucky enough to be married to a woman who understands my addiction! I've only just had the hybrid turbo and all associated mods stripped off my last car, so she's used to having parts being delivered or picked up by couriers. :)

What handling mods would you chaps recommend I consider for a quattro s-line? On my previous car I had B12s, polybushes and an uprated rear ARB (was a FWD). Are these similar things to consider in the Audi world?

You're very fortunate!

OK...handling mods...I'd recommend uprated ARBs all round, and also coilovers if you're up for that.

The bushes are worth doing if the rest of the suspension is down, and will tighten things up a bit.

Good work Mark!

With regards to the Revo Engine Mounts, my advice to you would be don't be too shocked or put off by just how loud they are when you have them fitted.

I had mine fitted by AmD Essex around 6/7 weeks ago now, and to say they were noisy is an understatement!

The good news is, nearly two month's later they have quietened down considerably, and aren't anywhere near as loud as when I first had them fitted - I also think there's probably still a fair bit of easing up and bedding in to go.

Also - harshness aside (as described above), the cabin now sounds like I'm driving a proper race car now. I really like it, but your good lady wife may find it a little 'testing'... :)

I had the Vibratechnics/VWR mounts fitted, and the overall effect is much the same.....not as bad as solid mounts, but a bit grizzly all the same.

Just had the Superpro lower engine insert fitted on mine. There is a great deal more noise just from that it has gone a touch in just two days however and now I like it. I was shocked what a difference it made in NVH. On the plus side gear changes are much slicker and engine movement has been reduced a great deal. Not sure it's necessary to do the other two mounts unless you are in big turbo territory.

I did the whole lot at Stg2+ as the engine was clearly moving around on the stock mounts, but for sure, the lower mount is the most important.

I wasn't too bothered about the NVH angle as I'd had an Escort with solid mounts and welded and bolted exhaust,so this was still more user friendly!

Great advice - thanks Alex! That said, coilovers are a bit too hardcore for me. That's why I've historically gone with B12s as they offered me what I felt was the perfect balance between comfort and fast road use. ARBs have now been added to The List, though. :)

Thanks for the heads up and helping to manage my expectations. I had uprated mounts on my Focus and there wasn't much of an increase in NVH, so it will be interesting to see how the Audi fares with the Revo mounts. As an aside, the missus doesn't like driving my cars. Something to do with heavy aftermarket clutches and big torque steer! ;)

Hmmmm. Nice. That Escort sounds like my sort of thing! I do like a good Fast Ford. My last car was a Focus ST with 400 lb ft. It was a bit of a handful in the wet to say the least. It tended to focus the mind when the wheels would spin up in 4th at around 90... :thumbs up:

Lol. Sorry about that Pat. Got a couple of offers that were too good to pass up! You'll see from my first post that I've still got a lot of mods to get, though, so lots of opportunity for you and I to do business again... ;)

That Escort was quite a car...ex GpN rally car,and as rough as you'd expect...didn't even have a proper heater.

Sounds lovely. Was it a Mk II, Alex?

Thank you!

It was fun but due to it's former life, had absolutely nothing remotely comfortable left in it,and you shared the space with fuel pumps, straight cut gears, and ALS.

It was very fast though....0-60 around 3s on almost any surface, but topped out at 130mph....

I had no idea just how loud straight cut gears were until I heard them first hand. Got pretty uncomfortable on the ears after a while!

I've got to say that being a bit older now,the S3 is so much more civilised, and it doesn't need to be warmed up for 10 minutes before driving....that makes a BIG difference!

I guess it's all relative. A 400+ bhp S3 being described as 'civilised' would make most people laugh.

LOL....You know you want to....

So it's been four and a half months since I took delivery of the first batch of hardware, so I thought it was about time to update you all on progress since that date.

The main news is that my so-called TFSI has turned out to actually be a TSI, meaning that my original modding plans have altered a little.

So, I had the car remapped with a bluefin stage 1 the very day I took delivery of it (I had the bluefin reset having had it lying around from a previous vehicle) and had been tootling around like that for a while. About a month ago I decided that I'd delayed long enough so broke out the Revo intake to fit it on my drive. Long story short: the Revo TSI kit didn't fit the A3 engine bay, despite Revo claiming it did. The heat shield was too deep and long to fit without fouling things. Big props to Pat at @LVS Racing who picked up the intake and gave me a full refund, despite me having 'modified' the shield with a hack saw in an attempt to get it to fit... Top man. ☺

Great customer service like that deserves recognition, so I decided to source my non resonated turbo back Milltek from Pat! By this point I had fitted a Neuspeed TSI intake to replace the factory airbox. I've been impressed with the kit which is a simple design and feels like a quality item.

So I had the exhaust fitted at my local tuner last week along with the Revo engine and transmission mounts. To say the mounts are noisy is somewhat of an understatement, and cabin vibration is significantly increased. @KentKid and @S3Alex were right about the mounts being a bit gristly! I understand that things will settle down after a few weeks so I'm going to stick with it to see how they develop.

I've this week flashed the ECU with a bluefin stage 2 map and the car feels much more muscular now that it's mapped to take account of the intake and exhaust.

As an aside, the pendulum mount had a bush missing which we only noticed last week when we went to fit it, but Revo were great and sent out a replacement mount, no questions asked. The car's booked in again next week to have this last mount fitted and to get dynoed to see how it's running. I'll update you fine folks once done to let you all have some stats. I may even take some piccies too!

More to come in the future...it would be a shame to leave the lovely Eurojet cooler sitting unused in my garage!
