Well I got my s3 on the 8th August and was quite happy in that it felt pretty sure footed, however this has changed over the last week with the weather we have had (Rain and lots of) to the extent that I have lost all confidence in driving my s3 it just feels like it wants to plough on instead of turn in, also I had to brake hard the other night and the abs was working over time to bring her to a stop, the Bridgestone potenza re050a are just not confidence inspiring .
So a quick call to black circles and car is booked in for 4 new Goodyear f1 tyres 8.30 sat morning and fingers crossed I will trust the s3 again now the weather is changing .
Anyone else felt like this on Bridgestones my fronts have about 3.5 mil tread left backs 5.

Dave

I haven't had bridgestones on my s3 but on other cars I don't rate them. Fairly hard tyres and not much grip.

I'm sure you will be happy with the goodyears, loads of good reviews about them.

I do hope so, all felt great whilst the weather was warm and roads dry.

I run mine on the same tyres and can never say i've been a position where i feel as if they are going to let me down. Although i have extensive suspension and braking mods so that obviously plays a large part in their performance.

The mileage you get out of them is phenomenal though. I got over 18k on the last set and have recently replaced them.

I commute a lot and the car is driven daily so I needed something with the best of both worlds and these suit the bill.

First bad report ive ever read about Bridgestones tbh. Ive had nothing but Potenza's on my car. I have nothing really to compare them to though.

Finally someone agrees that re050a are too hard and slip all over the place!! They change species after half of the tread has worn off!!

RE050's are a ******' nightmare. I took them off my Subaru as quick as I could. My S3 wears the F1's Asymm's and they are superb.

Those tyres are horrid.

No wet grip,no progression and not great in the dry.

There are lots of better tyres to choose from, and F1 Assymetrics are still a good choice.

My son recently fitted conti sport 5 onto his R32 and we spent a week in the Lake District. Excellent grip in wet or dry. I have conti sport 2 on my S3 with no complaints.

Hi Dave, my S3 also came with those Bridgestone tyres - and they were truly AWFUL.

Since then I have had two sets of Michelin Pilot Sport 3's, and I am now rocking a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Both are great, and I would recommend then to anyone looking for a good dependable all-weather tyre.

Other popular choices tend to include the Goodyear Eagle F1's and the Continental Sport Contact 5P - both of which get good solid reviews.

Use Conti Sports on our S3 which is what it came from the factory with. Never had an issue with them.

Mine are Bridgestone s001's, are they any better?? Def gonna try the PS3's the next time I need tyres.

The reason I went for the Goodyear f1 over the Michelins is simple, Price I got 4 x F1 full fitted for £440 which I did not think was bad, I used to run conti on my merc great tyre but they seemed to wear so quick.
Anyway never had F1s and great price and some great revues roll on 8.30 am Sat.

I had the Bridgestones on my S3 as the first set and found them terrible in the wet. Have run Goodyear f1's and found those very good. Currently on Dunlop sport maxx RT's and find those excellent but will be swapping over to a set of pilot sport alpin's for the winter now.

I've had most of the suitable/recommended tyres now apart from the Contis.

I use Toyo R888s most of the time, and switch to Michelin Pilot Supersports for winter, and having been through Michelin PS2,and PS3's,Goodyear F1's and was saddled with the RE050s from new,I can confidently say those were by far the worst "performance" tyre I'd ever used, even dating back to the Cosworth days.

Excellent prices.

I fitted F1s to my car a few months back and love them, got them from tyreleader for £280 delivered, cant fault the tyres or the company :)

I'm having 4 x Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2 K120 225/45 R17 Y (94), Reinforced fitting at 9 am i rate them higher than f1's and Avon zz3's for £295.96

Going to be my next choice ! They are a good tyre and easy on the pocket.
Currently running PS3s and the are brilliant

Just put some Kumho Ecsta KU39 on the mrs A3 yesterday and for the price Im liking them too, this is only an errand mobile though but still a 140 TDI A3

Hmm just looking at three also and I'm unsure on load rating. Can we use 93y? Or does it have to be 97y?

All are way over necessary I think 91 is like 630kg a wheel

It's £107 for the Goodyear F1's then for the 93y :)
Wonder how much local garages would charge to fit if you don't buy em from them?
My local garage is charging £120 for these...

eeeek i take it the gararge then would be doing free fitting if i buy the tyres then lol?

The price a garage quotes is the all in price and disposal of the old tyre

Well I had the 4 new Goodyear F1s fitted yesterday all I can say is the difference is like night and day, I must admit though looking at the front tyres I was down a good few mils in tread depth (more like 6 mil) anyway what I'm saying is I'm well happy with them, on the round about coming home tonight felt like it was on rails.
So fingers crossed my exhaust comes this week and then see if I can get booked in for stage 2 ( il skip stage1) .

Dave

Might aswell skip stage 2 tbh bud and go straight to stage 2+ surely? Its only about £350 more for the hpfp and you go from 330bhp at stage 2 to 370bhp at stage 2+

Just trying to help... ;-)

After just buying the tyres ,revo intake, bcs sport exhaust, I can't afford to get the HPFP and a remap. Plus £150 to fit exhuast ,and the loba pump is £560 so no I can't afford to go straight to 2+Wish I could.

Dave

Off to the tyre guys today....

Time for the R888s to come off,and the PSS's to go back on for winter.

Just as well,as it's less than grippy in the wet or very cold days,AND...there's a nice puncture on one of the R888s(which luckily sealed up with some Tyreweld long enough for me to sort it out.).

So as usual each side of the car trying to go in different directions.

Before.....

And after......

I have to say that AMD got the camber and caster angles very close when originally set up.

Nice Alex, very detailed report! My local garage is doing me the Goodyear F1s asymmetrical for £96 fitted and balanced! Happy with that tbh! :)
Dout they will have machinery like that tho lol

I have the tracking done by the local tyre guys who have a laser 4 wheel rig and they know Quattros of all types go out of alignment very quickly but now of course any camber adjustments need to go to AMD but over a year neither camber nor caster have slipped at all.

And I thought my price was a good deal. Got to say another 25 mile on them today and can't believe the ride so much better. Those Bridgestone tyres must have been rock hard ( the rubber not tyre pressure).
