I seem to have nothing but problems with my A3 so just wanted some advice.

My engine management light came on yesterday, but the cars run fine with no problems. Still.. I took it in and got it scanned at Volks Autos and they said that the NOX sensor and EGR valve need replacing, which I've heard is not cheap.

I was quoted £1133.88 to get it fixed and right now to be honest, I just can't afford it at the moment. Its annoying as the car runs completely fine but I was told if I leave it, it would be bad for the engine. I don't know whether to sell it (obviously stating what needs done on the car) or to actually come up with the money and fix it..

Its a Audi A3 2004 2.0 FSI, 65k on the clock. I've had bags of work done on it and I've just had enough now. Every few months something new needs to get done.

Any ideas on what you would do if you were in my position? Maybe any cheaper quotes out there or is this a reasonable price for this job?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Cheers

Im on the same bus. But only the nox tho. I really can tell the idle is bad when nox dont work. Very annoying, as our fsi cars have a 6 wire nox sensor. I tried looking for a universal 6 wire lambda, and solde rit to the nox ecu. But no luck....

argh.. I see I see. I didn't think this would be a huge job as the labour quoted was only 2 and a half hours..but the parts seem to be expensive..

Anyone else out there to help? lol

Just a quick update..I called out the AA as they can scan my car for the codes and it came up with:

P0403 - EGR Control.

That is the only thing that came up so I don't know why I was told it is the nox sensor as well. I'm just lost at the moment

Get a second hand one buddy or a cheapie off fleabay .I bought one for £150 and has worked out fine without issues. Easy to replace with the right tools.

Thanks mate I will do.

Seeing as it scanned and came up with just the EGR value. Why would they say I need to replace the NOx sensor as well? Are they trying to pull a fast one...?

Hey, out of the blue. How is your car when in 1st gear? (F.eks driving in traffic, or driving around in parking lot)
Im not sure if it is a nox problem, but my car is really stuburn to drive. Like the throttle is very sensitive, when lifting of the gas, the car bucks back and forth (like letting of the clutch to fast many 3-4 times)

Mine actually does that but only if I am heavy with taking my foot on and off the throttle.

In traffic I just drive easy on the peddle and it seems fine.

Have yours always been that? Mine is not smooth at all. Feels like the car stalls

As far as I remember it has been. If I am heavy on the throttle on and off though it will jerk back and forward
