I've just put down a deposit on my first Audi, an A3 Sportback S Line! :D

I haven't added many options due to wanting an S Line and needing an S tonic which really pushed the price towards the limit of my budget. I managed to secure a 14% discount though with a local dealer after I showed them a few deals from carwow. So I'm very happy with my deal and spec.

The estimated delivery is the 2nd of March, but I supposedly won't receive a build date for a few weeks, so I have a feeling that may change. It's a long wait, but it will be nice to receive the car early spring and with a new 15 plate.

I'm looking forward to joining in the forum. I'm sure I'll be on here a lot between now and March.

Welcome along mate. Tell us all your spec?

That's a great discount - I think you can be sure that nobody is likely to beat that! Do let us all know what engine, colour and spec you have gone for. I've had my 1.4 since August and absolutely love it!

Hi, welcome to audi-sport.net. Looking forward to hearing about the spec on your new car. Enjoy the forum. There is plenty to read on here while you wait. :) x

Thank you for the nice welcome!

I was very surprised with the final discount, the negotiations were going badly with the local dealer. But I then walked away and test drove a Golf GT (great but not as nice as the A3) and did a bit of research on here to see what level of discount others had achieved. I went back to them with the carwow offer expecting them to hang up, but they instead invited me back and offered me a better deal.

Compared to yourself my spec is quite limited, but this is what I've gone for:

  • Sportback 1.4 TFSI 150PS
  • S Line
  • S-tronic
  • Daytona Grey - It was between this and Glacier White but I've done white with my current car.
  • Door mirrors folding (not dimmed) - I'm really surprised it doesn't come with folding mirrors as standard. They're not exciting, but I think they're useful.
  • Extended Mono Pur
  • Rear Parking Sensors
  • Sport suspension - I tested drove one and compared to my current car it was very smooth and comfortable. They didn't have an S-Line suspension to test and I didn't want to risk it.
The car I initially specced up was close to £30K which I thought was crazy and I couldn't justify spending just yet. The car itself is a massive upgrade compared to my current one, a 2012 Kia Rio. Hopefully it will be the first of many :)

Thanks Sandra, I think I've already read every post! I'm really not sure how I'll cope over the next 4 months. I'm already driving my wife a little crazy and she won't look at any more Youtube videos with me.

Nice spec. I along with many others on here would recommend the Interior Lighting Pack and certainly the Comfort Pack. Not having auto lights or wipers on an S-Line would be a step back IMO. Just my suggestion :)

Thanks Sandra, I'll be taking a look through the detailing forum - I was very precious with my last car before the Kia (Fiesta ST) so I'd like to do the same with the A3.

Thank you for the suggestions A3Kent. The dealer did suggest the comfort pack, but apart from the rear sensors I've not had auto lights/wipers or cruise control before so I don't really know what I'm missing and IMO don't think it's worth the extra over the sensors alone. The lighting pack does look great though and it's very tempting.

When is the cut-off for changing your spec? I've not been given a build week yet, how long does it usually take to receive one after ordering?

That's fair koder. The lighting pack is only an additional £170 odd so not a bad additional for the money.

I'm not sure on the cut-off for changing the spec, someone else will be able to confirm this. I ordered mine on the last day of September and was given a provisional build date straight away as the dealer was adjusting an existing order. If yours is an adjustment on existing order you should get a provisional build week straight away. If not, I'm not sure. 2 weeks after this the build week was moved forward one week to the start of next week. Mine will arrive in early December but I don't want it until January.

Nice spec and welcome to ASN! I agree regarding comfort pack, interior lighting etc. My order has been with the dealer for 2-3 weeks and i changed it the other day and i've yet to get a provisional build week, i have read that it took some 5 weeks to get it, but i'll be interested to know the average time myself!

Thank you for the suggestions, you're making it very difficult for me! I suppose I could eat into some of the 14% I've saved.

My dealer said it could take up to 2 weeks to get a build date, so I'll be chasing them if I don't hear anything by then. I don't think he's attempting to adjust an existing order, it's not something we discussed. Even though I hate waiting, unless I was getting the car before the end of the year then I'm willing to wait for the 15 plate.

Good to see I'll be joining a few Daytona's :) I've only seen 1 around here, most of the S Lines I've seen are in Glacier white.

Welcome to Team Daytona :)

Can only agree re the Comfort Pack and Interior Lighting I'm afraid.....

Comfort pack is good, personally I wasn't bothered about the interior light pack. But then I haven't been out in the dark since I got my S3.
I hope the lights work!

I would say that high beam assist is definitely worth the 100 quid it costs. I find it brilliant, although I've only been out in the dark a couple of times yet.
I waited 12 weeks for a provisional build week, and the car itself took 29 weeks from order to pickup. But mine is a saloon and they do take longer.

+1 on the comfort pack and I wouldn't be without ACC. I must use it for 70% of my journeys - whether at 10mph or 70+mph, it works beautifully.

Thank you everyone, i really appreciate the advice. I've decided not to add any more options even though the cost on some are minimal compared to the car and what I've already saved. I have to stop somewhere and the extras I've selected are ones that I need or think enhance the car but are within my budget. I've never had most of the standard equipment too so it's a massive step up for me already and I don't know what I'm missing.

I think if I wanted all the extras I'd have to lower my spec to Sport or get a lower powered 1.4 - which I don't want to do. I need the S-tronic as my wife will occasionally drive the car and she has an auto license. I think the S Line looks stunning compared to the Sport and I've tested the 150PS and 125PS and I could really feel the difference.

I'm still young, so hopefully this will be the first of many and I can save a bit longer next time and tick all the boxes :)

Sensible - you have to know where to stop versus your budget and even a standard A3 is a wonderful car so with your extras it'll be great!

As to build times it's very difficult to say but my times were:
  • Week 23 - ordered
  • Week 24 - build week confirmed (mine was a dealer adjusted spec)
  • Week 29 - first day of that week car produced
  • Week 31 - delivered to Audi Exeter
  • Week 32 - collected car 4/8/14
It'll be a frustrating wait however long it is - but worth it! Keep reading the forum and looking at the photos. I even found one closest in spec to mine and then photoshopped my registration number onto it - how sad is that?

Thanks Pete, I don't think I'll resort to Photoshop just yet! You must be very happy with the relatively short wait, what would you have resorted to by the end of 4 months. I've got a lot of plans with my business between now and March so I'm hoping staying busy will prevent me from going crazy.

BTW, your car looks stunning and what a beautiful backdrop! Unless that's Photoshop too ;)

No that's for real!

If you haven't read them yet you might like to read my earlier posts/threads about my 1.4 car. You will have noticed that a lot of the posts are about S3 models so you have to really search for reports on our more humble machines!
