Gearbox Remap for Tiptronic?

Anyone ever heard of JR Tuning in Kent?

They claim they have developed their own software to remap the tiptronic auto boxes (which I previously thought were un-mappable), which doesn't alter the shift pattern but it provides quicker gear changes and raises the torque limits (within the limits). Thinking about it that probably means they are altering the torque converter rather than the gearbox itself, making it slip less, which provides a quicker change and reduces heat build up as it's open longer.

Anyone has their tiptronic (not DSG) auto box remapped by these guys or anyone else? Is it safe? Does it make any difference?
 
Although. I live in Kent, I've had no dealing with the company, so can't offer an opinion. If you decide to go ahead, would love to hear feedback.

When I got my car remapped I think the gearbox was done at the same time, the manual and tip engine maps are different.
Brotek did mine, Mark maybe able to assist you on that.
 
I went to the Nurburging with the owner who has a gorgeous RS6.
He definitely knows what he is doing regarding remapping, you won't have any problems.
Speak with Rob and he will answer your questions and address your concerns.

I have sent him a link to this thread, so he may well appear.

I emailed the company and within about ten minutes had a reply from Rob with a quote for a gearbox remap. All I've got to do now is decide how much I want it and where to find the money from.

This is your fault, Joe!!!

The product you're talking about for gearbox tuning does indeed work on the non-DSG boxes. It was originally designed for Aston Martin gearboxes before being rolled out to cover other manufacturers. Essentially you're looking at quicker gear shift speeds (this has little to do with the Torque Convertor) and earlier locking of the convertor to provide a more 'direct' DSG like feel and better pickup. Obviously it'll never be a DSG, but there are still great improvements to be had.

I have an RS6 myself (C6 shape, V10 Bi-Turbo) which @sidibear would have seen at the Nurburgring. These are not DSG but a 6 speed ZF torque convertor auto thus naturally was one of the first VAG group cars to be piloted on this system :)

I know this is the Audi forum but our X5 has the same ZF box as my Audi but feals very different to drive. The Audi's us fantastic in comparison and the X5 one was rebuilt by a specialist in Erith who I don't recall the name. Can you mod the X5 Rob and get it closer to my Audi?
 
All the BMW gearboxes from 2003 onwards can be programmed / tuned via the OBD2 diagnostic socket, and in some cases even older :)

This does depend on the vehicle/gearbox (ZF Torque Convertor, Multitronic CVT, R-Tronic, S-Tronic/DSG etc).

For a normal ZF T/C you're looking at faster and crisper gear shifts, earlier TC locking and relaxation of the software torque limiters (particularly useful in the case of a remapped engine). They're also a lot less laggy off the line as a result.

In the case of my RS6 for example 1st/2nd/3rd the TC lockup took some time. It feels so much more "connected" like a manual transmission now - for want of a better description. Gear shifts are slick and very quick and due to the torque limiter changes it produced another 33Nm of torque at the wheels without any additional changes to the engine mapping.

The R-Tronic boxes in the R8 gain similar in terms of faster shifting etc, but its also much smoother (they're a bit clunky stock) and they're a lot less jumpy at low speed too.

Multitronic gearboxes feel more like a ZF once done... My father has a 2.0 TDI A4 (2012) with the Multitronic and to be honest in stock form it was enough to drive you mad. There wasn't much point in the paddle shifters as you couldn't really tell what gear you where in as it never held onto a ratio and was constantly paddling around. This can all be improved in software.
 
I have a A6 C6 3.0 Quattro auto and It's quite sluggish from take off and lags on roundabouts.
It also holds the revs in gears as your accelerating.
Would it still be smooth to drive in "D" for family driving as well as better in sport mode.

How much are these gearbox maps?
