Hi all,

I bought a 2007 Milltek TBE (sports cat, resonated) off a forum member, it had barely any miles on and was like new. Expert inspected on collection and all seemed fine. Had it on for about a year/15k miles.

Started sounding a bit bellowy at the front. Turns out the flex pipe on the downpipe (sports cat) has separated and opens up.

Anyone else experienced anything similar? is there a fix? Don't fancy £700 on a new downpipe really after a year.

They can be repaired at most reputable exhaust places. No need for a new one.

got a BCS group buy going that includes downpipes, if you wanna upgrade to save having to replace the down pipe section if/when the welds crack in future

Jesus are you guys on BCS payroll? Every single exhaust thread.

As mentioned any decent exhaust place will be able to fix that.

Can anyone recommend a decent place for repair in the Manchester or Sheffield area?

These crack because the flanges on Milteks are mild steel and can't cope with the continual heating and expansion. I seem to remember reading that once its repaired make sure you change the mounts up front as this can help to prevent cracking in the future.........or go BCS ;-)

Yea I do need my mounts doing anyway, but i'm so ****** off. I know I bought second-hand and everything but even so! It sounds like a WRC Polo ... and it shouldn't.

Yeah, I'd be ****** off too unfortunately this is not uncommon with the Milteks and I think the now supply mounts with the exhaust

It isn't the flange on the turbo end that has the issue, it is the flexi bit of the downpipe, the mesh material has come away from the retaining-ring thing at one end so you cat pull it down and expose the "spiral bit inside" (i'm paraphrasing the mechanic)

Pipewerx near Liverpool will repair it for your they aren't expensive either. No need to buy a whole new exhaust just for a repair.

Have you spoken with Milltek about this, worth a call, they may offer some goodwill, regardless of age as its been a known problem afaik.
