Euro jap look … thoughts ?

Kent my old chap.
I'm thinking of going with 8 and 9x17 jap style wheels on the wagon what's everyone's thoughts, wasn't a fan before but I'm warming to it now.

So you want to install tyres that dont fit the wheels, to wheels that dont fit the car, then wreck the handling by ruining the suspension alignment to stop it scraping?

I actually quite like the wheel design, but they dont make them in sizes/offsets that actually fit the car which ruins the whole thing.

Exactly. If they did rota grid or similar in sizes and pcd for our cars I would have some. But no stretch or other *****.
 
Rota grids are available in 5x112 et 30/32 and 18x8.5j iirc

I do like them just for brake clearance/visibility id have them if i had a spare roughly £900 (no tyres) £1200 (tyres included) :)
 
Interesting. But will you fit that without stretched tyre on a lowered car?
Et 45 in 8.5" only so still need spacers.
 
Problem is 8.5" wheels dont really fit a narrow body B5 that well and would still end up a bit stretched because you cant fit a tyre wide enough to fit comfortably on an 8.5, especially up front. The rear has a bit more room due to the narrower track.

With a bit of tweaking and rolled arches you might get a 235 on which wouldnt be tooo bad.

BMW E90's and the B5 RS4 both run 255 section tyres on an 8.5" rim for instance, and those look "right", in much the same way a 225 looks right on a 7.5" rim. A nice square profile, not all slanting inwards.
 
They look great IMHO. The stretch tyre is a compromise but I've run a 225 tyre on a 9.5j for 4 years with no issues.

The rota mxr comes in a good size for the b5 iirc.
 
Stretched tyres on a car is an insanely stupid thing to do. Drifters do it as it makes it easier to break traction and transition between drifts as the sidewall flex is removed. In the real world you don't want to break traction easily as you will crash and likely kill yourself or some other poor sod. There are also a number of construction and use issues that could see you in front of the judge. To cut a long story short there are no upsides
 
Falken and a few other companies state that a 225/40/18 tyre on a 9.5j is acceptable and within tolerance.

Drifters don't used stretched tyres to aid in the braking of traction. For drifting you want as much grip as possible truth be told.

Stretched tyres are normally fitted for the look. Above all else.

My comments as to why Drifters use a stretch came from a friend who competes in drift competition. They were the reasons he gave for his use.
 
Fair enough, it's not a common thing though, a lot of the drifters use a square tyre set up if you look closely.

I think they look awesome on rota grid drifts 17s or 18s with a good stretch,I've seen a merlin purple s4 with grey 6 spoke rota grid drifts and it just looks right!
 
Isn't that a widebody?
 
Don't do it, the don't suit the car IMO
