I'm not much of an audiophile but I do enjoy my music and the B&O system is easily the best sound system I've owned both inside and outside of a car.

As a result I've just left the settings largely untouched (other than dialling in some surround which the dealer did) to see how I get on with it, but I wondered what settings everyone else has?

Is it worth fiddling with the settings, or is it pretty much spot-on out of the box?

I immediately found improvement, to my ears, by dialling up the bass and sub to "2 o'clock". I left everything else as is.

One thing I noticed is that on my B&O set up screen I have dynamic volume but in other photos I have seen this is called Gala+ I am assuming they are the same and just changed name recently. I have the full tech pack with connect and B&O.
Settings wise, I have left it more or less out of the box and it sounds superb with good sources.

PhilA4 makes a good point, make a real effort to use high quality music. Plenty of other threads on this though.
I personally do not use Gala, I want my music loud whatever speed I am doing!

Made slight change to Bass and Treble - again towards the 1400 hour position.
Everything else left as is.
I've only had it up to 15 so far - quite loud enough for me.

May do a Test to see what number the Volume does go up to - and still stay listenable.

I suppose the original volume setting of the music file itself is a factor (or am I talking rubbish?) but I've happily gone up to 35 though around 30 is my level if I'm in a loud mood. Still no distortion (except to my eardrums I guess).

15? That's barely audible (****** conti-sports)!

I've gone as high as 36 but that's really uncomfortable. If I'm listening to R4 it'll be 16-20 at the minute, and music gets pushed up to 28-32 depending on style.

can't remember what my settings are but i find Metallica/Hendrix and ELO sounds great at about 28 :)

I'd potentially turn off surround sound on the B and O, it's no good for music unless it's a super audio CD or a 5.1 file.

Is there a CD in SA format that you would recommend to truly demonstate the surround sound capabilities? I have never had a really top-end system and would like to appreciate the difference it makes.

It goes to 49.... But your ears won't...

Whoa - I'll never go that high !!

Good to know that it does go so high.
Might "Rock Out" and give it a boost up to 20 on the way home tonight.

Do you get surround with just the B&O system? I thought you had to have the tech-pack too...

I don't think the Tech Pack is setup to decode SACD.

I think the only surround you are going to get from Tech Pack & B+O is 5.1 from a DVD. Even then I'm not sure which coding it supports, DD, dts, Pro Logic II or what.

It doesn't support dts, tried a dts encoded music CD last night and it didn't like it.

Yes both I think

Referring to the specification guide again (not that it's very far away from me at all times!):-

B & O system - 5.1 surround sound reproduction is possible when ordered in conjunction with Technology package.

B*gger!

It's almost as good as the ***, but with added crackling :p
