Planning on getting a remap for my birthday next month and been offered a Revo map from a registered dealer where my mate works for £200 cash but before the offer I was swinging towards a Shark map for £250 but this would require me to travel a way.

Still thinking of a Shark map but unsure which one to get LOL

I've had Revo stage 1 on a couple of Mkiv 1.8t Golf's in the past & preferred the results against other maps I tried Custom Code, Evolution, AMD etc.
The guys over on briskoda.net hold Shark Performance in very high regard & I'll certainly be giving Shark a try next time I map a VAG car.

I would get the Revo map, there is likely to be little difference between the generic phase 1 maps and the Revo is cheaper and local just in case you have any issues.

That makes sense just worried some say it is too aggressive the Revo map.

I am also glad mine is the AVF with the larger 240mm clutch and slightly more 310 torque figure as standard.

The six speed box and bigger clutch certainly helps when these engines are mapped. The small amount of extra torque the AVF has over the AWX 310 to 285Nm is just down to the map. Audi decided with the slighltly larger clutch on the AVF it could run a bit more torque. Typically with a reasonable clutch a 5 speed 228mm will be happy with 400Nm . I used to run my Passat with a standard 240mm clutch at 470Nm but that is pretty much the max a low mileage 240mm clutch will take.I was running a BV43 turbo with several other mods.
A lot of people suffer with clutch issues when they remap a car, quite often because the clutch may have already done a lot of miles and will certainly not be at it's best. A remap will find any weak points in your car, at the end of the day your right foot controls the amount of power and torque created.

Agree totally and mine is healthy and fit at the moment lol.

My car has quite low miles and pulls quite strongly for a 130 but is not mapped for sure.

As you say......I control my right foot and I don't drive like a loon, but it would be nice to have more power when it sometimes feels like it runs out of puff when you need that little bit more when the whip is thrashed.

As said stage 1 will be very similar so I'd personally just go with whichever's cheapest, will be interesting to know how the clutch holds up as a six speed will surely have more of a chance of sticking around.

what about the awesome gti re-map there normally only £150 its a generic map that they have made mine was re-mapped by forum member and i met a chap who has the awesome re-map and the pull on both maps is very similar and not much smoke at all mines the 5 speed his was 6 speed

Too far away and restricted by distance.....my mind is also set between the Revo and Shark maps mate.
