I'm looking to buy an s4, the only must haves are B&O stereo and sports diff. The only ones I can find in my price range are on around 70k miles.

I planned to go MRC stage 2 as soon as possible, would this be suicide on a car with such high miles?
Do these cars throw up many expensive common faults at certain mileage?
... Please tell me the dsg boxes aren't as weak as I've been reading about.

Thats what put me of getting a DSG all the horror storys i heard about them but the manual clutch isn't much better DMF goes so on

I heard that there was a fault on the earlyer oil pumps aswell when the B8 first was around but apart from that i dont think there is much more

Also i read someone saying the B and O wasnt worth the expense against the standard sound system dont take me word for it as i only have the normal one and have never hear a B and O so

I suppose it depends on your preferences. I like decent quality sound and really couldn't be bothered trying to install a system on the car so thought B&O would be the way to go

I agree mate having not heard the B and O i can't really comment just something that i read

Found one for 23k without B&O with 43k miles,
Or 20k fully loaded with 70k miles...hmm decisions

Sports diff, ADS, NAV and super sports seats would be my must haves. B&O is good but i wouldn't overlook an otherwise well spec'd car if it was missing.

I'm trying to find the difference between sports and supersports but drawing a blank.

Super sports are one piece recaro(ish) style while the normal sports seat have an adjustable head rest(I think) both are comfy but the super sports lift the cabin a bit.

Not heard the B&O system personally. Others on here might be better to advise but standard set up is really good.

Found an unlimited mileage warranty at £550 for 3 years which will cover up to 7k per repair. I would definitely get this if I buy the higher mileage car

I have the B&O and a friend has the standard. The B&O is leagues better, especially at volume. One thing to note, though, it is not much bassier than the standard, it is far better handled. Because of this it is more suited to audiophiles than boy racers. Feed it some decent quality sound and you will be happy (I'm not going to judge musical taste as most people wouldn't like my heavy metal taste ;) )

I have the ordinary seats and find them comfy enough, though I have been fighting to adjust the reach to suit me. That wouldn't be any different with the Super Sports Seats though. I don't have B&O either and find the normal one quite good but then I'm not an audiophile. I kept the options list short on mine as I bought new and I don't really feel like I am missing out.

DSG gearboxes have been around for a while now. Expensive to fix but hard to get a sense of how many break and they seem to have improved over the years. I mean people mostly come on the forums to moan when it breaks, rather than to praise it when it's working. :) My old man reckons it's much like when automatic gearboxes first started gaining popularity in the UK. If you asked the man in the pub about them he'd suck his teeth and say complicated, gonna break and cost a fortune to fix. DSG seems to be in that spot now.

razza1 has a stage 2 S4. I'm sure you could ask him about it.

More about my S4 here: http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/s4-1000-mile-mini-review.226733/

Put a deposit down on a black one, one owner, full audi service history. Red and black supersports seats, full ADS, reverse camera, DAB, B&O....loads of stuff. Does have 70k miles but I have 6 months warranty from the garage and will buy an extended one

Yep, it has been immaculately maintained. I have buyers remorse now though as I somehow have to shift my modified Mazda 3 mps which is proving difficult.
May strip it for parts...spent we'll over 5k on it

If you are buying an extended warranty just read the small print on what is actually covered . In my limited experience they aren't worth the paper they are written on most of the time. There are so many exclusions and get outs it's unreal.
This applies even more if you are intending to modify the car

I would second the B&O - not in your face bass but better fidelity. Everyone that's been in my S 4 and heard it has been impressed. Super sports seats are great once you find the sweet spot in positioning. Watch for door regulators, water pump on early models (many will have been replaced anyway).
Mine has heated and electric SS seats, B&O, sports diff with ADS, 19" rims, sunroof, storage pack and ski hatch, folding mirrors and auto rear view mirror and MMI with sat Nav. Probably a few other bits I can't remember. One thing I don't have is AMI and it's a ridiculously expensive retro fit to what, in effect, amounts to adding a USB socket !
Took mine to MRC a couple of weeks ago at 53000 miles for a stage 2. Completely stock otherwise.
Before 349PS and 470nm
After 490PS and 606nm
It was quick before, now it's a hoot.

Oh, and DAB which I find next to useless. The signal here in the SW is appalling.

It's had the water pump done already and full history which was the main thing. I think I'm just being paranoid, I've never spent so much on a car unless new

Funny that the S4 seems to do that. I was never having a car this expensive. Ooops. :)

Do it! The smile it puts on your face is worth it, at any speed you put your foot down and it just takes off. There is very little on the road that will touch you.
It puts it into super car territory yet is still nicely refined for day to day

+3 B&O. Sound quality is fantastic and you really notice the difference when the bitrate is 320kbps compared to lower quality.
I had BOSE in my last A3 and the B&O is miles better and can handle anything I throw at it from pop to hard style

MPS sold!!
Get the car on Thursday, ill book straight in for the stage 2. The s4 seems slow compared to my 500 bhp fwd jap crap.

Picked it up today....mightily impressed.
Not as fast as the Mazda but it's absolutely beautiful to drive.

Question...how do I get the parking sensors to activate without putting it in reverse?

Should be a button beside the gearstick with a P on it for front sensors if you have them.
Rear sensors only activate when u select reverse gear :)

Anyway...where are the pics? Lol

Ah, I see it. Thank you.
Pics as requested, needs a good machine polish which will keeps busy all weekend,

Again on the B&O. I have it in my Black and wouldn't wanna be with out it. Sound clarity is second to none and have found myself getting MP3's at the 320 kbps on just hear the clarity. First time I drove it I wondered what was going on with a song I knew well. Never realised there was so much backing tunes that I had been missing out on
