a mate has just finished his ban for drink driving and has got insurance again. I am confused because he is now paying less insurance than he was before the ban - I was under the impression they were classed as a liability - the only change is he is now a named driver not policy holder.is this normal? I know there will be heated comments - just for everyone to know I am not for drink driving, I hate it.

Same exact thing happened with my mate, insurance said its because they would be more careful now.

I suppose it depends if you have learnt your lesson. I am not convinced yet but maybe I am wrong.

He has served his ban and paid his fine so why any extra punishment is needed ?
It is just money extraction by Insurance companies.

my view is purely based on one person and I don't believe he has learnt a thing. on the whole I agree they have served their time but sometimes it doesn't sink in.

Some insurers refuse point blank t otouch somebody with a DD conviction. There are companies out there that specialise in people with less than a squeaky clean driving history.

my hunch was right saw him the other morning smelling of drink with car keys. now I am in a pickle - I had a word before but he ignored it.

I'll go a step further than @voorhees - the only right thing to do is report it to the police if you are reasonably sure he is likely to be over the limit. IMHO there's nothing worse than a drink driver that is knowingly doing it. It's bad enough if you get caught the day after and it's a genuine mistake, but learn your lesson. Looks like this clown hasn't unfortunately.

Also, with regards to the insurance policy, is he the main driver of the car? Sounds a bit like the policy could be being fronted if he is declared as a secondary named driver but actually does most of the driving. That said, if it's the other halfs car (for example) and he only occasionally drives it then fair enough.

Okay, okay, I'll get off my soap box. :) :tumble:

will wait a bit because only one time but I think I will have to act if it happens again.
he is a named secondary driver but it is his car, and I think he does the majority of driving - so no insurance either I guess.

Definitely act if it is a regular thing. Imagine how you would feel if he was behind the wheel ****** up and caused a serious accident.

It may sound a bit extreme, but think worst case scenario here..........

Would you be able to deal with it yourself??

You can report it anonymously....i think if you have a word with him and he subsequently gets stopped, he may think that you have grassed him up and then have it in for you.

Thing is my frustration lies with people doing crazy stuff whilst driving and having a ban, yet they are free to walk out of court, jump into a car and drive off...until they get stopped...which could be never!!

Upto you mate, but I know what I would be doing.

^ I got a ban in 2012 for speeding. My mrs was driving my car on her insurance and we passed countless police cars and I was expecting a tug each time we saw one but nothing. Maybe my ban was too short for the systems to be updated.

Wouldn't hesitate in dropping a drink driver in it. It's such a selfish and ******* retarded thing to do.
