Aye, I bought a fancy uprated paddle clutch to cope with the extra power my cosworth was putting out 10 years ago now and wasn't as expsensive as these buggers lol

I've had same problems with my car and my bill was £3500 and would have been a lot more if my garage had charged me for all there labour, and they still havent got to bottem of my problem. A little advice take the hit and get rid of your car now before the ends up like mine, just got rid of my a4 today, did a straight swop for a ford focus St.

My problems have going on months now and after the car been garage all last week again, I've give up.
I so wanted to love my Audi 2.0 TDI but all my Audi loved is helping it self to all my money.
Well my 8 month nightmare is over.

Holy **** mate you have had it bad, Least your ST focus will sound nice on power unlike the John deere tractor sound lol, Id have a focus ST myself but I cover over 30k per year so that's a no no lol.

Yip, white smoke lumpy tick over, oil in fuel and few other issues.
Audi a4 2.0 TDI are money pits, get rid while you still can.

Who knows, but dont waist another penny on it.
I so wished I got rid of mine months ago.

God only knows, its ****** shame because when there running right there a real nice car, which is not very often.
looked at a new insignia the other day, looks like a tin of beans, lifetime warranty, minimal issues, not a lot going on in the inside by comparison to my a4.... just shows the two ends of the spectrum and the a4 b7 just runs like a pile of sh*t

Well mine is 170, but my mate from work has a3 2.0tdi 140 and he's never had pick of bother.
He even put petrol in by mistake but it still ran better than my 170

ha! just so so so odd! had an a3 170 with the exact same issue.... said to audi how can they just make cars, even sell them as approved used knowing these issues are there

Audi have turned a blind eye to problem, and now the cars are getting a bit long in the tooth now there just not interested what so ever.

Hi guys ,I myself have the same problem in my 1.9tdi s line a4 . White smoke on idle and lots of it,twice I've had a lumpy start. Left it in with an Indy and he put it on the computer which told him misfire in cylinders 2&3. I took the car back and no smoke for a week and now it's back again, any body else had this issue????
I feel for you guys - and I say this sincerely having searched and searched for a diesel 2.0, or preferably a 2.5 Quattro, some years ago and being unable to find one ended up with a 53 plate, 2.0 (non-turbo) petrol A4 with 60k on it instead.
I'd based this on having a 54 plated 2.0 diesel B7 A4 as a lease car, and a 2.5 diesel Quattro A6, again leased, some years before that. I often wonder if the 2.0 was one affected by the oil pump problems. I had it just under 2 years, and of course as a new car it was fine. The A6 on the other hand had some minor problems - and of course I've since found out about the chocolate cams on those.
Lucky me. Would I buy a 2.0 170 diesel? Probably not. But then again, what % of these cars are having problems?
That said, the A4 I have hasn't been without it's costs and niggles - but with 145,000 on it I'm reasonably happy overall, and it just puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. And yes, it's hardly a performance car but it moves well enough and returns 33 mpg overall. The overall build quality is grand, and other than an occasional mystery minor knocking from the front suspension, it's solid, doesn't rattle and is rust free - apart from what I know to be a pattern front wing which is starting to go.
And here's the problem - we like these cars because they are reputed to be solid and long lasting. But the reality is that we're getting stung with poor engineering and problems caused by trying to make a small, inherently dirty engine, be clean, refined and with high performance. The diesels of old ran and ran - and rattled, smoked and sounded like, well, a diesel. But they weren't festooned with DPF's, balance shafts and all the other gubbins of a modern diesel car.
All this said, a pal has a late model Mondeo and loves it. He's an ex BMW owner who had to get a bigger, cheaper car when they had a family. he says it's great. I had an old 1.8 Mondy years ago - it just ran and ran, but was also bland and boring. Cost me .66 a day (ex normal service parts etc - so that was depreciation and repairs) over 80,000 miles in 5 years though! But I much prefer the A4. But that will cost me far more than the Mondy did.
