Hi guys

My friend took his bam on 110,000 to amd today for its stage 2 and it only produced 266bhp/284torque....when he said that's quite low....One of the amd lot just said yeah thats quite low but didn't offer any explanation and didn't seem really bothered!!! The modifications are a......Stage 1, stage 2, milltek 3" dp n decat, milltek cat-back, sfs 3" tip, forge boost hoses, N249 delete, forge 007p, 4bar fpr, ramair foam filter, 82 degree thermostat, powerflex dog bone mount.

Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks....

so not stage2 mods.

ANYTHING can be wrong, from leaks to a poorly engine and anything inbetween.

They stuck the file on and that's all the car can muster, could be AIT limited, could be crap fuel, the fuel pump maybe tired due to too much load by using the 4 bar fpr.

The engine could be tired and blowing by at higher boost, the valves could be worn out, should I go on?

No need to have a 4bar FPR... no stage 2 S3 needs one... ever....! really don't know why people still insist these are fitted :(

<tuffty/>

When he went to book his stage two in with AmD they told him over the phone he will need a 4bar so he went out and brought and fitted one at work....They also told him he needed new spark plugs and coilpacks so he paid for them as well....They didn't believe him that he only did a service on his car a few months ago as they said that his spark plugs look liked they've covered 30,000 miles...They weren't much help when he had his stage 1...as they said it weren't boosting properly but can't find out why...ended up being one of his boost hoses had split....

It's what happens when the company doesn't use a smoke machine for testing or a dyno for logging. The list of potential problems is long. The map will be okay but it's made assuming the engine is perfect as it was when it was new and the software written.

What is stage 2 these days? Stage1 is just a remap, stage2 is add an induction kit and freeflowing exhaust at AmD. Stage 2 tuning with the custom mappers require a front mount, TIP and exhaust manifold+ etc. there's no fixed description for stage 2, in my opinion.

Doesn't really sound that low for the mods listed and age of the car.

My stage 2 didn't make much difference to peak power figures, but lifted the mid range a lot.

Yes Bill, the stage2 on the AmD site, the front mount is optional for stage 2, 'their' version of stage 2.

Required Hardware

* Turbo back exhaust without pre-cat and either decat or highflow catalytic convertor (Millteksport system recommended)
* Cold Air intake (Pippercross panel filter Or Cold Air Induction Kit)
* Uprated DV (recirculating diverter valve)
* Also for the car to be running on good fuel 97-99ron
* 4 bar pressure regulator
Optional Hardware

* Uprated Engine Mounts
* Uprated Transmission Mounts
* Uprated or Additional Intercooler

that's just stupid, what are you taking advantage of getting another map if you've no fmic
How is it stupid? That's just 'their' requirements for stage2. Bill and Niki wouldn't map to stage 2 without a front mount, that's upto them. If people actually did the research before doing the work, then it wouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately, not everyone is clued up on cars.

What was the car running before the stage 2 remap?

267bhp lol
im sorry but to stage 2 a car which is known to heat soak terribly even on stage 1 is a numb nuts idea!
im with Karl on this, there is no advantage having all the other parts without the fmic so mapping was pretty much pointless.
and whats worse is he is getting the cooler next!!!
he should have been given this advice before booking
just more dumb fuckery from AMD

they take advantage of a bit of extra airflow with the TIP and filter (but most stage 1 cars will have this anyway) and maybe slightly lower back pressure and egts from the downpipe. But those factors alone warrant another 'stage 2' map??? I don't think so.

if someone came onto this forum and said 'hey guys ive got an s3 with a b5 tip, 3inch downpipe, will i need a new map?/ im going to get a stage 2?/ where can i get a stage 2?'. Every man and his dog would be saying fit a fmic before any further mapping, as its the IATs and sustainable power that a fmic, in conjunction with a stage 2, that's of benefit over a stage 1
