Dear all,

My otherwise reliable A5 threw the above message out yesterday when trying to activate the function. Everything else works fine - the cruise control / abs / esp etc no warnings. The epb however has also stopped automatically releasing itself - a message on the dash comes up instructing me to 'release the handbrake' when I put the car into gear.

It's a tfsi with 6sp manual box.

I know it's an old thread but I'll post it anyway to help any one else. This issue is caused by the clutch pedal position sensor switch. Unfortunately it comes as part of the clutch master cylinder up on the bulkhead that has a connecting rod to the clutch pedal. The epb and the hill hold assist both use the signal from this switch.
It's approx £136 from main dealer but about 3 hours of labour to change it. When mine went I managed to get one off eBay for £50 new and then had a mechanic for it.
