Is the rns-d/e an audi thing? Ive been looking at aftermarket satnav dvd players and not sure what exactly i need. My current b6 has the standard single din concert radio/cd player. I recently purchased the double din cage. Do i need any extra componants to make it work? Also saw a few audi sats on ebay an are they harder to install?? Any help would be appreciated

You'll need the correct climate control unit to sit under the double din, this will move it down to give you the room, and do away with the storage area just behind the ash tray.
The RNS-E is the Audi unit and is very nice, do a search on here as its been done many times.
But there are several after market units, you pays yer money and takes yer choice really, some cheap, some not, the likes of Alpine will make a very nice unit..

RNS-E is the one to go for if you want to stay OEM. You will need a wiring adaptor loom from Kufatec and VCDS to code.

there are aftermarket units out there but it is down to personal preference……

You can also trim your current climate control unit to fit…...

Didn't realize that, will bear that in mind if I ever get some spare cash!

I got the instructions previously on this anout fitting the cage etc. Cheers guys for the response. I was looking into it all and couldnt understand the whole rns thing. I saw an audi one on ebay with the canbus and never understood why none of the aftermarket ones never. Im going to go with the audi one i think. I have tge vcds and all anyway. Cheers again lads

The only thing stopping me from getting RNSE is the price

They're stupid money unless you can find someone breaking or buy a full car for cheap

Oh dear . I saw that it fited my b6 and though that was class. Would that cause any probs in it? Also would it b coded or anything? I have vcds if that helps

To answer your question, that Xtrons head unit probably doesn't need coding as it's non-OEM.

I'd be interested to see it in operation.. I'm intrigued by the 'new humanized UI'.
The screen resolution doesn't looks a bit low, there's no mention of the GPS functionality - what maps it supports, how you update them (DVD / sd card) etc.
I can't see where the SD cards plug in either.

I wonder if they sell the same unit shaped for several different VW/Audi cars..

My car came with the first generation RNS-e, I've since upgraded to the second generation, which has a much better display and is much quicker and snappier..

It still takes an age to scroll through all my music though.

I went RNS-E MKII from a Seat Exeo, because it’s basically a B7 with new clothes and uses the Cabriolet dashboard. It fits well and is OEM but it loses the garish black glossy surround and the aluminium buttons that don't match the B6.
Looks really good and performs really well. It replaces the RNS-E MK1 I had before which was an upgrade from my Symphony.
I have the perfect RNS-E MK1 for sale if anyone is interested, I will put it in the classifieds.

I went the kenwood route as I personally found the RNSE too basic for what I wanted,my kenwood unit has sat-na by garmin, DVD player, bluetooth and full ipod control,I also have reverse camera and DVB installed, I also have rest screens in the headrests and the "zone control" feature is great for when the kids are watching a DVD as I can listen to a different source in the front.
