Hi everyone,

Well it finally happened. Roof down today in the sun, went to put it up and always good until my front drivers side window made the noise we all dread !

Got the door stripped and sure enough cable snapped right by the spooler. Motor seems fine.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to parts ? Cable kit or whole regulator ? All the cheap kits on ebay look a bit flakey to me....

Cheers all.

i bought a cable kit off Ebay the other week, was a tenner or something, seems to be holding well and fairly easy to fit.... ish.. you need a lot of patience.

You have to take the whole reg out! Quite a pain on the cabs. There's a video on YouTube of how to do it but its very hard doing it his way. There's a centre cog that the motor turns, this has the two ends of the cable do that first and get in place then on top of each roller on the corners of the reg there is a tab where the cable can be held.. Get the cable all in place then spin the rollers and the cable will slip down into the rollers runners.. Like I say need a lot of patience..

I've got a window regulator in the garage for an Audi B6 if it's any good to you?

The part number is BRF 8E0 839 461 C, I just don't know which door it's off.

Thanks for the offer way318, much appreciated. I think that part code is rear near side though.

This is why I like this forum everyone is willing to help :tennis:

Quick update. Cable arrived, fitted last night, all working fine. Took about 3 hours to fit, was pretty fiddly and the assembly of the mechanism and the new cable is definitiy best done in a particular order. I will try and add some pics and notes later.

Did you do the motor reel first then the edge rollers last?

Hi Bez, pretty much yes, I assembled the motor roller first then I left one of the guides rollers without the wire wrapped round it so I had slack to do the motor roller. Then wound the wire onto the last guide roller to tension it all up. The key it to also make sure all the cable guides are in their slots to no wire is visible at all except parallel to the window quides.

I also left the bolts slightly loose that hold the guides in the door until I churched the alignment with the seals. It's important to make sure the rubber seal is fully pressed back into the guide inside the door as well otherwise the window glass is too stiff to move under the motors power.
