The S4 build wait thread

Morning all
Just wanted to say hi and thanks.

Been lurking for a while, across the whole B8 forum, whilst trying to decide whether to go new or used for an S4. The number of used 2012+ S4's makes picking a "nearly-new" one up quite difficult and after quite a bit of shopping around decided to go new, with a relatively modest price jump from approved used to new.

Thanks to all you guys, and a couple of test drives, and an external influence or two I've settled on a pretty comprehensive spec for a new S4 avant:
S4 Avant black edition, Sepang Blue, S4 super sports seats with convenience pack (I'm 6'1", Mrs C 5'2"), heated front & rear seats (boys always complaining me and Mrs C have heated seats and the don't in current car), ADS with damper control and sport differential, technology pack, mobile phone preparation high, and removable tow bar (for my beloved tow bar mounted bike rack - possibly the only S4 with a tow bar after all my used research turned up nothing on that front)

Ordered 2 weeks ago.. Initially build week 4 !! But then updated to build week 47 once the deposit was paid... Potentially a nice Christmas present... Price wise the same as a late 2013 used (forecourt price) but specced how I (& family) want.

Now the wait...

Steve

Hi Steve, that's a nice spec there mate. I saw a sepang blue one for sale when I was looking but it didnt have full leather which is something I wanted. The pics of the sepang blue looked stunning so will look forward to seeing some of yours when you get it!! Do you get B&O Hifi with the black edition or is this something you were not fussed about? Congratulations anyway, bet you can't wait. I'm 3 months in to ownership of my 2010 S4 and absolutely love it!

Got a tow bar on my 2012 S4 avant ;-)

.....don't need it and didnt look for it, nor was it in the spec description when I got it used for a main dealer. Just found it in the boot.........supposed it's handy if I ever need to, er, tow something at mach 2.

Hi Magrillz - yes, the black edition does include the B & O sound system although I think for the first few weeks I'll have the radio off and the windows open :)

Don't blame you but its nice to have when you are stuck in traffic or cruising on the motorway. Love the fact you went for heated seats in the back, the kids are very lucky indeed! :)

Congrats Steve, lovely spec' & colour, I never intended buying new but did & it seemed a little indulgent at the time for me if you know what I mean, but after frequently looking at used cars that were often the same price as list new but with a compromised (for me) spec - It became a no brainer - Its a long wait mind, I've only been waiting a month but it feels like such an age already (build week 41, *yawns*) :(

I was not impressed with the condition of most of the used ones I saw which is why I ended up with new.

So as delivery meanders slowly closer I'm starting to think about GAP insurance - any recommendations? I'll see what the dealer offers but at the moment ALA looks like decent cover at a good price.

Yeah, I had in the back of my mind they said £700 and something but didn't think that could be right seeing ALA are asking for ~ £200 !

From memory my dealer wanted about £650 so ALA look to be a good bet. In the end I didn't bother -sometimes you just have to accept the risk.

I usually don't bother with GAP but with the cost of the S4 I decided I would take it this time. By the time I went to collect the car, the dealers GAP quote had mysteriously dropped to something like £530. :) Still miles from the ALA quote, digging through the docs it looks to have cost £268.

^ Same as me, not bothered with it before but with this being my first brand new car I guess the depreciation will be more steep so a bigger potential loss. At £200 ish its a no brainer.

On other news, dealer has confirmed my car is in production, two weeks earlier than planned. Woo hoo!

Should be with you before you know it :) Can you take out your GAP insurance after the first year as a lot of insurance companies will replace the car with a new one if it is written off in the first year?

Hope so, the wait is getting slower and slower!

I think most of the policies stipulate you have to have bought the car within 60-90 days of taking the policy out.

On a completely different subject, I have spec'd the supersports and with two kids in child seats I need to find a seat protector for the backs. Anyone in a similar situation and can recommend something? I'm not sure most of the conventional seat protectors will work.

Ooh. Shark Performance have just released their stage 1 map. 400bhp, 500nm and cost is £649.

410bhp, just waiting to find out whether they take the ECU apart to do it.

Their Facebook page had several posts but the important bit seemed to be that they could now do it without ECU removal.

Ahh that's good news and now very tempting!

That's great news!! I'm jealous mind as the wait is now entering the 'tiresome stage' for me, good luck & hope the shipping part doesn't take too long :icon thumright:

I got mine about 2 weeks from then but I think it depends on ship availability and then the transporter this side - so hopefully 2-3 weeks :)

Looking forward to seeing some more shiny, new S4 pictures soon from you guys. :)

Ditto...??
(Probably busy enjoying sport diff'?! ;-) )

How's yours Keef?

Collection went smooth as you like, though the weather today was appalling. At one point I was dodging bits of trees and hoping one of the feckers wasn't going to fall on the car!

Didn't manage to get many pics, but here she is:

Absolutely loving it, the quality of the materials and fit and finish is way above the S3 8P and the shove from take off is so much fun. Photo doesn't do Sepang any justice, it changes colour nicely in different lights.
