I have a problem with my imobiliser on my 1997 a4 1.9tdi has anyone defeated this can anyone do it in the co durham area? And how much?
Cheers

What's the issue?
When I try to start the car it will fire up then cut out within 2 Seconds it might do this 3-5 times each time the imobiliser light flashes rather than going out.
Other times the immobilser light goes out and the car starts no problem.

Theres a couple known issues relating to the wiring and the pickup coil. Might be worth investigating those first before you have it removed.

I have no codes showing on other systems, but can't get vcds to work on my laptop so can't test that.

Check the two pins at the reader coil plug. They're normally to blame with intermittent immo faults. The crimps on the pins you would think are French..

Ok so I tinkered with the wiring at the imob unit and noticed one seemed more loose than the other so I nipped them a bit tighter so far so good this seems to have made a difference. Worth trying. Might have saved me a small fortune in diagnostic and repair.

I've written a post before about this... It's well worth trying if you don't have access to vcds.

I just got a couple of 0.5mm gold female pins with repair wire allready crimped on from dealer ( my work, so was free :) ) and replaced the pins in the plug for the coil reader with heat shrink crimps... Never had a problem yet..
not an uncommon problem among the b5's

Glad you got it sorted. From personal experience it's annoying as hell

You just need the airbag/steering wheel off and then the steering column cowling...

Then it's pretty much right in front of you.

Apparently there used to be a theory it was interference and people would wrap the wiring to the reader coil in foil... But it's actually the 2 female pins in the connector that open up most cases with the movement of the adjustable steering column... The crimps on the pins are also pretty poor and causes the same issue.
