Can't believe it....

My A4 QTS has just passed the 200,000 mile mark.... Engine and Turbo are still original.....as are many other things.....
Thanks to the Everyone on the Audi Sport forum who have helped me keep her/him/it alive so far.....

You're going to stroke for gt28? You sure it's worth the money? I'm planning to stay with 1.8 for gt30 in the future

Stroker would help even on a K04. Theres no replacement for displacement! Sure the turbo helps let a small engine seem like a much larger one, but a bigger engine will always drive better.

And if your opening the engine up anyway to fit rods, its not a huge additional stretch to go stroker is it? Especially on a higher mileage engine where the bores and pistons are all getting a bit sloppy anyway.

Some time ago I did check the cost and (although can't remember the exact figure) it was quite a difference from dropping rods and pistons.

well on top of rods and pistons you need a crankshaft. Your boring the block anyway for the pistons, and while its getting bored you need to clearance the bottoms of the bores for the rods.
The only other step you need to do, is machine down the oil pump drive to clear the conrod on cylinder 4.

Obviously, if you JUST fit rods, dont rebore and reuse the original pistons, it can be done a lot cheaper, as your not doing any block machining, just a quick hone, new rings and bearings and build it all back up.

I believe it was tufty or westy who said in his thread that gt30 on 1.8 was spooling earlier than gt35 on 2.0. But, my car is far from BT anyway so will see when it comes to that.
Isn't bill running 1.9 with gt35 in his ibiza?

Looks like I've missread it then. Thanks

It will be worth the money as the ABF block i took the crank out of ended up being free, as i sold the pistons and rods for £40 plus post to which the guy who bought them for roughly $130 sold them on for $475 shipped on votex, so i missed out on abit of cash there but hey ho i have a free crank :)

Im thinking that on the 2.0 a GT2871R with 3" inlet all the way from the filter for good flow and with an 0.64 turbine housing will make up some of the lag and make a fairly quick car and im hoping for 350hp+ The 0.64 will cut abit of top end and power but i dont want the lag but i may swap out the 0.64 for a 0.86 housing and get them both dyno'd and see which i prefer i drove a focus RS mk1 the other day and it was lagtastic approx pushing 270hp it was as if there was no turbo till about 3-3.5k then all off a sudden wack it would boost like mad and torque steer like mad. So i dont want it laggy which i presume the 0.86 housing will be like Im just looking for a cheap reliable good on fuel car then it will be sorn'd and im leaving the engine build till last im going to start on getting all the suspension and subframes done (the cheapish bit) lol then it will be time to stroke it and empty my pockets. IN2DEEPS car really set the stone on the idea of this route as his car was just awesome altough he was running alot more goodies than i will be doing as he had GT30 and loads of 034 stuff just depends what bargains i can grab lol one thing is im going to try order the stage 3+ spec clutch listed for the audi S2,80 3B so i can use the 1Z flywheel !!

Thanks.... I cant believe its made it this far now...

Id like to put a BAM in mine, but I think that it will be a B6 QTS next year :rockwoot:
Finances are just recovering from having an extension added to the house ........ house b4 car.....:rulez:

oh! BAM goes that option.... sorry couldn't resist :D

Bar the turbo theres no real difference anyway, infact the AEB/AJL has the better large port head already, and the same crank/rods etc.

And ofcourse the transverse turbo doesnt fit an A4!

Ahh - quattro 1.8 TT BAM engine uses the A3 haldex 4WD system ?
So to get 225bhp from one of these engines all you need to do is find the larger turbo - K04-23 ?
Will it fit the std AJL exhaust manifold and cat ?
Are there any other things that are needed .... Remap ?
Thanks

It wont fit directly, as the turbine housing and manfiold bolt patterns are different.

However if you get a K04-02x turbo, you can have the A4 K03 turbine housing machined to take the K04 turbine, and build yourself a hybrid.

Or you can just have someone like beachbuggy build you up a hybrid to suit.
