Wow, Geoff, it looks stunning! Well worth the months of waiting eh? I was tempted by grey but my last car was grey so wanted a change and as the TT looks so good in white .... Thanks for posting the photos - now we'll be waiting for your first impressions report! See, we don't let you relax on this forum - there's always a demand for something or other from us Audiers!

Enjoy the fantastic car and drive safely!
Thanks very much Peter
I'm now only up to my third drive, I'm obviously a bit too laid back for my own enjoyment and should have done more by now. I'm also still way behind in finding out how to work things, and I haven't even spent time sitting in the car and going through things, let alone watching the DVD that came with the car. My wife had a drive home yesterday afternoon and at least that gave me a good opportunity to start going through menus and seeing what's there, while we were driving. She likes it too - a lot. It does lots of things and does them very well. However she was quite pleased when we found that there are some things the S3 doesn't do that her car (V6 CC) does. The main thing we noticed so far, and I really like on the CC, is that the headlights turn with the steering and effectively look around corners, plus there's very good lights that light up at the side as you turn into a street or driveway. The S3 - nothing ... - that's not what I wanted to find out. Oh well we can't have everything we want and the S3 is so very good in many other ways.

Anyway after the 3 drives, the car is just getting more and more enjoyable. It feels better than the demonstrator cars I drove, and some of the concerns I had, are not nearly as negative as I thought they might be - these included: - general road noise, a risk that it might not be refined enough to enjoy with normal driving around; and maybe, surprisingly to some perhaps - the very fat steering wheel rim. The road noise is there, but it's not too bad. The car does still have a good feeling of general refinement even though it's also somewhat firm, loud and brash when needed too. I now actually like the very thick rim ... who'd a guessed ....

The headlights that turn for corners didn't pass Aust standards is what I could gather from earlier discussions, ie Golf R has it, but not on the S3.

A shame as my LED headlights have a number of functions which are really clever:
- Turning lights provide more lateral illumination on tight bends and when turning
- The headlight distribution modes for motorway light and country road light are activated depending on the road speed and in conjunction with the sat nav (it knows what type of road you're on)
- Motorway light with extended range at speeds above approximately 68mph (again in conjunction with sat nav)
- All-weather light makes conventional front fog lights superfluous and reduces glare in poor visibility (in fog, rain or snow) - but you probably don't get fog, rain or snow in Oz? LOL
- In conjunction with Technology package with Mobile telephone preparation - High with Audi Connect (WB4) the navigation data works with the LED headlights to control the light distribution with motorway light and country light modes using the stored route data from MMI Navigation plus with MMI Touch;
- Junction light, which provides a wide front light setting,
- Travel mode, which switches between right and left-hand drive modes assisted by GPS data (not a lot of use in Oz I realise!!)

Peter I wish I knew that when I ordered. They sound very impressive. I might have paid the extra $1200 for those too. I thought I was getting turning lights and maybe the LED's didn't do that - but instead of the opposite. Mind you my night time driving is mostly araound town, so it isn't as though I need them, but I would have wanted them. Not to worry.
(Relating to what Longy said - the other thing is - do the LED's do they turn for Australia - or have they been stopped too???)

Rain .. yes I've heard that term before, what does it mean again? Actually we do get fog too, the road to Wollongong from my place (Sutherland shire - southern end of Sydney suburbs) does get fog quite a lot.

Within MyAudi website, under Technology and Safety section, I for my build it list:

* Headlight-range adjustment, automatic/dynamic bending light (AFS 1)
* Fixed bending and all-weather light

So what does that mean? Will I get bending lights or not? Did they become standard on LED headlights on MY15 Aust spec cars?

Well, I picked it up yesterday - just awesome. Very happy with the spec we got.

To answer some standard questions:
  • The wait from order date to delivery date : 6 months and 1 day
  • Odometer reading on delivery : 34km
  • Freebies on delivery : None (though the sales mgr I ordered from is still on leave).
  • Run in approach : Always ensuring oil is up to temp, did some bursts of acceleration and engine braking to assist piston ring sealing. General driving - accelerate briskly, without using full throttle or high RPM initially. Basically drive it as I intend to, increasing throttle % and RPM when accelerating as mileage increases. An approach I've used on my cars in the past, always with positive results.
  • Drive select settings : Steering & suspension in comfort, all others in dynamic. Comfort mode until oil is up to temp, then Individual mode.
The weather was less than ideal yesterday, so not a lot of driving as yet - more of the that today ! Already loving the ACC and high beam assist. Very happy with the ride and grip - and the power that is clearly there.

Yesterday, once I got back from the dealership I fitted my number plate brackets and covers and after market metallic footrest.

I also made the following VCDS changes :
  • Display the Oil Temp on all DIS menus
  • ACC default distance setting menu to MMI
  • Disable the DRL's when the light switch is set to '0'
  • Disable the DRL's when the handbrake is on (I will choose to keep either this one or the one above)
  • Autolock when leaving the car (All S3's in Australia have convenience key)
  • Enable TMC messages (Not enabled by default in Australia)
  • Added acoustic feedback on lock & unlock
  • Added the acoustic lock menu to MMI
  • Altered the switch off speed for parking plus
  • Altered the setting so the seat heaters don't automatically lower from level 3 to level 2
  • Tested that the security codes I'd found for modules 03, 09, 10, 13, 44 and A5 were valid - they all were.
Here are a few quick iPhone pics from the dealership, I'll post better pics once I get the car back from the detailer (the car will be with him Monday-Wednesday next week) - he will be doing window tinting and paint protection (Modesta - which I understand may be very expensive comparatively in UK)

In the Ballarat area, Audi Centre Ballarat is our local dealer.
That must mean you have some nice quiet roads not too far from you, to enjoy the new machine?

And, how about telling us if you "like" your new S3 or not. Probably not, by now the novelty has worn off, and it's back to the daily grind, after all 6.1 months just flew by and you've had it now such a loooong time, all of almost 3 days ......

And you have been busy with your VCDS adjustments. Hope you are having fun?

----------
But what I want to know is how to get the time to be displayed while you have the digital speedo selected - surely this is easy - I haven't found it in the book yet? Does it need a VCDS fix and does anyone have the code if so????

There are various roads nearby to assist with running in and getting to know the car, and few I'll wait until I'm using full throttle and RPM for ;) Oh, and a few candidates for testing out launch control too!

That's right, novelty worn off, car received - tick, move on to the next thing now. But seriously, I "like" everything about it so far, except - like you - the lack of electric adjustment *and* memory on the Super Sports Seats which is really disappointing, given even the standard seats don't have a memory either. Especially as I am a foot taller than my wife!

Having lots of fun, clocked up about 500km so far :)

There is no option I can find to display the time on the digital speedo - either using the standard menus or using VCDS.

I don't have the spp - I have the electric adjustment - but as you say - no memories, and that is really a pest. Only a foot difference and your wife can't adjust to your setting - well, she obviously isn't trying.

And a second thing Audi are not getting right - no time displayed with the digital speedo yet you can stare at the date all day - oh dear.

another negative is the lack of fine control to set the adaptive cruise. VW can get it a lot better, why can't Audi - winge winge - I love mine too, but I see no reason why it shouldn't be perfect.

Thanks sstorra

She doesn't see the funny side of her feet not reaching the pedals !

I don't have an issue with the ACC. I think I understand why they have the built-in settings the way they are - they are perfect for setting the speed to the actual speed limit in each zone. Given the way the Victorian government looks upon only a few km/h over, it works well for me. I also find that because the speed is briefly shown on the digital display when you hit set, adding a few km/h extra is much easier than in previous cars I've had. I've also used an OBD2-WiFi dongle and the Dash Command app to check the actual speed Vs what is displayed on the digital display and it's always with-in 2 or 3 km/h (obviously that is the actual speed is 2-3 km/h slower than displayed), which is a lot closer than previous cars I've had.

Issues with setting the speed aside, I use the ACC most of the time - unless I am on a nice, quiet, windy road ;) I think it's brilliant. Took the car out for a brief drive at night, and I find the high beam assist to be excellent too.

So close now, S3 is sitting at the dealership!

Sorry Longy, that's not your car, that's going to Mr. John Smith. Apparently yours is still coming ......

And it looks just like your specs too - I bet it looks good.....
