Hi guys,

picking up my new S3 Sportback this Sunday and I have a few days to consider taking up the Audi Tyre insurance. Just wanted peoples opinions on it. Is it worth it? I wont be doing that much mileage probably 6000 a year and only plan on keeping it for 3 years till I change. I have taken GAP but not the smart protection/ paintwork cover. Obviously my dealer is telling me im crazy for not taking it!

cheers

From what I've experienced and read the s3 8v does like a puncture. This may be due to the continentals. I'm on my second 8v s3, I did 7k in the first and up to 5k in the second. My running total is now 6 punctures, yes 6! In 1year 1 month. Two of these have been replacement tyres. 5 nails and 1 metal shard all in back wheels.

I have no idea what the insurance covers because I wasn't offered it.

Hope this helps

Audi tyre insurance? I thought GAP insurance also offers it, along side with the above you mentioned, but obviously at a different cost.

I got it as a package with alloy cover for £300. The way it was explained is that your covered for up to 5 claims in 3 years. It covers everything except normal wear. If you get a puncture etc you can have a tyre up to £300, you pay and they reimburse you providing you use an approved centre etc, even if it's repairable you can request a new tyre. Someone at work had this on his a4, tyre got down to 2mm, put a nail it in and got it changed for free, well £10 excess that you pay per claim.

LOL!

I'll have to look into Tyre insurance as well then

hi guys. thanks.. hmm very torn 50/50... for 300 pounds seems worth it!

I paid £210 for my tyre insurance and that wasn't even with me knocking them down.

Worth every penny - had same policy on my A1 and used it twice in two years. £200 a tyre (My A1 had a rarer size fitted) so was very handy. Both times were nails - I do about 4000 miles P.A.

Just called the claim number, emailed pictures of tyre damage and the tyre type and it was approved next day. My policy has no excess which is even better. Of all the crap dealers add-on, this is the most likely to be claimed on. Can't recommend it enough.

Make sure you read the small print on these policies. Some policies may cover 5 tyres but only pay out once per corner and the spare.

What tyre make will they replace? Like for like?

I've never taken out such a policy and never regretted it even though I've owned some cars with very expensive tyres.

Good advice that.

I have seen a Synter policy that had a restriction of one tyre per year per quarter.

The policy I have covers 5 tyres with no limits per year or corner.

Just been reading through my policy, it doesn't mention how frequently you can claim or which tyre just upto 5 in 3 years. However, it does state you can't claim for damage where the tyre is below 2mm.

In regards to the tyre is says a comparable one to the tyre damaged up to £300 fitted preferably by an Inchcape dealer or if not possible a business who specialise in tyres so kwik fit etc. If you don't use Inchcape they may ask to inspect the damage for up to 30days after the claim.

All pretty straight forward and fair really.

we got the tyre insurance as well. when we picked up the car the dealer told us that when the tyres get really low come back in and we can find a puncture or two :)
