Hi i have put a flat bottom MFSW in my 2004 Audi A3 , I have got advised to change the following parts which i have done,

Slip ring- 1KO 959 653 D
Steering wheel control module- 8PO 953 549 E

The problem i have is the yellow steering wheel light(no power steering), traction light and air bag is showing on the dash.

I gave it to a garage and they could not re calibrate the wheel as the software was showing a fault with the steering angle sensor, I was advised to buy a new one which i did and got it installed and it was still showing the same fault.

When i put my original slip ring ,steering control module and steering angle sensor back on, the power steering starts working fine and yellow steering wheel light and traction goes off. But only problem as i cant fit the airbag on that slip ring and my multi function controls stop working.

I need someone from Wolverhampton/Birmingham or any where close that knows what there doing for help.

Anybody out there to help?

Was your old steering wheel a single stage airbag?

If so, theres been cases where a newer steering wheel's airbag doesnt deploy in the event of an accident so would also look into that.

Safety over looks :icon thumright:

Yes my old one was single stage airbag. I know it should be safety over looks but i just need my power steering working with the multi function controls. So its not a major to me as long as i don't let no one drive the car.

I have been in couple cars where there's been a crash and steering wheel airbag hasn't been deployed

Best bet would be to speak to @Ash187

@Dalj I have just received your PM, Can you display the log of faults you are getting?

Waiting to hear back from the garage and see if they still remember what the exact fault code was

This is what info they gave me.....

"Steering angle sensor defective, Which causes the adaptation/basic settings fault"

I put a brandnew steering angle sensor and still came up with the same fault

ok you ideally need someone to do a steering angle reset on the car. that garage obviously doesn't know what they are dealing with as they have replaced the part and it still came back with the same fault.
If you were able to come down to me i would be happy to look into it for you. i could come to you also but i will pm you.

Ash, lovely website, just a note that it crashes on Firefox!

Fine in IE.
