Flywheel is on it's way again.. Rattling it's nuts off whilst idling..

My pal who's a mechanic has suggested to get a SMF put in my 2.0 TDI A3, i'm just a concerned whether they'll be anymore vibration or rattles inside the cabin if i go down this route.

SMF & Clutch Kit - £300 + fitting
DMF & Clutch Kit - £350 + fitting

Has anyone converted there DMF to SMF?

Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

You'll notice more vibration at idle and potentially more noise.

They can apparently be more rattley at idle.

Also read horror stories of cranks snapping due to being improperly balanced with SMF where a DMF should have been used. No idea if there is any truth in that though.

^^ You've confirmed what i thought Westy, DMF it is.
Thanks for the responses.

I had a SMF on my mk1 fabia vrs and it did rattle when in neutral. Was on the car for 30,000miles, before I sold it, without any problems.

It's the added noise that's putting me off, the BKD diesels are noisy anyway, I don't want anymore noise if I can help it.

Had a SMF and stage 3 OFE Southbend clutch on a 1.9Tdi audi a4 b6, the gearbox played ball for 3000 miles before trowing the towel in ! Stay DMF as much as possible, i would rather buy a genuine one from Audi/TPS and take your chances !
