Gents,

Got a problem with my a4 need some assistance.

Firstly i had a new engine / turbo / clutch +fylwheel about 3,000 miles ago.

Now when i drive and get into the turbo is making a hissing noise, mechanic checked pipes around turbo and all are ok.

Thought it was turbo so sent it back but they say its fine.

Refitted turbo and its still doing the same, are there other pipes i should check?

Last few days its been going into a kind of limp mode, all this with no warning lights or anything on the dash.

Thanks in advance for the help lads :)

Have a look at the boost pipe for rips or near the connections I didn't have these problems but mine was some how batterd after a while might be that

It definately sounds like a boost leak and the car is underboosting so is going into limp mode which will clear when the ignition is cycled.
You need to check all the boost pipes from the turbo to the intercooler and back to the engine again. Look for signs of oil on the pipes, the crankcase ventilation oil fumes are passed through the turbo so these will make a wet oily patch anywhere that there is a leak.

karl.

nice one lads,

hoping to get the front end off 2mo and have a good look round, the limp mode is getting rather annoying now aswell with the hissing and the black smoke, rear end of the car looks like a pug306 dti with the boost tuned up haha

hopefully its nothing too serious, if all the pipes are ok what would my options be?

I'd take it to be pressure tested mate before you start stripping it down. That way you know for certain that it's loosing boost (through the intercooler) just illiminates it from your enquiry lol.
Shouldn't cost more than £20.

Yeah, will any garage be able to provide this service?

wondering if this could be a leak in the vac system...

sounds as though the car is struggling to control the boost/fuelling which are both controlled, at least in part, by the vac.

check all the small bore pipes around the engine too, probably easiest with a cheap vac gauge, doesn't need to be mega accurate just show fluctuations :)

I would go to a local tuner as they will have to check for boost leaks etc whilst on the dyno. May be a good place to start mate
