Hey guys just needed some help with my a3 black edition dsg TDI I want it to tell me what gear am in when driving like d1 d2 d3 ect.....at the moment it just says D.

Thanks again in advance

I believe you need a DSG remap of sorts to get that info up on your dash. I could be wrong but I'm quietly confident that's the case.

I read somewhere you can just activate it via vcds but now I can't find the link

Almost certain you need it mapped to have it displayed

am i allowed to put a link of it here from another forum?so i can show you what i mean?

I can't see why that would be a problem personally

Have you got VCDS to try it?

1. Select 02-Auto Transmission
2. Select 10-Adaptation
3. Open with “down arrow” and scroll down to and select Single Gear Display
4. Under new: Open and select D on/S on.
5. Do it!

Yeh I've got vcds cable but the Mrs has gone to visit her parents for a week so will have to wait till she brings back the car..

Mine already shows the gear, and i can't open adaption to change it

I have not known any different tbh, they may be the same ;)

It isn't needed is it,not make any difference to how it drives.

That's just like saying the radio or ac isn't needed as they too don't make a difference how the car drives but if it can be added just makes it better

Okay to put it another way,if the radio station didn't show what frequency its on would it make any difference ?

I can see my gears on my DSG btw :arco:

I may have to see if this works on my DSG box. With regard to DSG remapping, who has had theirs done and who would you say are the best?

Mine has a Revo stage one and it makes a helluva difference,I have looked at the stage two but its maniac (in sport mode) already for me.
Three sixty horses fwd becomes a traction issue, hence the avatar.

Haha! I had AMD Essex have a crack at mine but all that I've noticed is in manual mode it doesn't kick down and allows me to hit the 6700rpm rev limiter. I asked for a raised launch RPM which other tuners do which they couldn't do, I also asked that my shift points in "S" were higher and the gearing changed faster which it doesn't do.

Also now when in M mode it seems to surge into the next gear, like if you were slipping the clutch in a manual into the next gear. I'm worried it's not doing my box any favours. It's been in twice now and still I don't feel like I've got my £300's worth. :(

Errmm yes I've been caught out on the limiter in M a fair few times, you should be short shifting in S but at low speeds it'll be like having Kangaroo juice in the tank.

It feels like it wants to surge forward every gear change whether I'm flat out or not. Feels strange. I thought you weren't supposed to "feel" the changes at part load anyway.

I have had 2 8p2's and 1 8p and the 8p didnt show this but both of the 8p2's did as standard?????

One thing that I don't understand though is why it is backwards? Instead of 1 2 3 4 5 6 it shows 6 5 4 3 2 1 ???

I would ring them just to get some advice if your thinking its not working right, gear changes are meant to be straight in as the next gear is spinning and ready to go so hardly noticeable,on mine it lets out a fart on load and its in.

Yeah it was like that and was "supposed" to be made faster yet it's got slower and feels like it slips into the next gear.

Mine also displays the current gear in the bottom right corner of the DIS. (55 reg s line sportback dsg)

Which facelift?

Sloppy gearchange is a sign of DSG failure, now you might be lucky and you just need a dsg oil change, or you might be unlucky and need a thick wallet...
