Just wanted to keep you updated on the progress since my rebuild - timing components replaced, Clutch & Flywheel, Milltek Exhaust (Non Resonated), Piggy Downpipes, JHM Tune (93), suspension, wheels & tyres.

Last week I undertook a 500 mile drive from the very south of England to the North East of the country, a total of over 500 miles.

Having had a few issues when the engine was refitted with the new (Genuine Audi) Electronic Cam Adjusters, which after a lot of head scratching turned out to be the Solenoids/Actuators which is part of the Electronic Cam Adjusters. These items were found not to be working correctly due the piston which allows oil to be sent under pressure to activate the variable cam timing, being a very tight fit causing it to jam in it's cylinder. These were returned and checked by Audi and they agreed that they were not working correctly and blamed a manufacturing error, in the piston being too tight in it's cylinder. These were replaced with another two items which after fitting did occasionally have to same problem and on two occasions in the first 200 miles caused error codes to be thrown.

Having now done over five hundred miles, I've had no further issues, maybe due to them bedding.

BUT - If you are doing a timing overhaul and your replacing these items, give them a test prior to fitting and if you have an issue take them straight back to your supplier. Much easier than having to strip the engine again as I did. I am still confident that there will be others out there that will come across the same issue as I had.

Exhaust and Piggy Pipes sound awesome and I've been asked quite a few times "What Engine Is in That"....... LOL.

Performance definitely increases with these two items.

JHM Tune - Brilliant, I love the increased mid range torque and use this more that the top end of the rpm range.

Overall, I now have exactly the package I was aiming for and without spending any more $$$$ for a while, I'm totally happy with the car as it is now.

Only time will tell where I'll go next with the car............ The choice is obvious, but I always worry about how much these engines cost, to take it too far.

Big thanks to everyone who offered advice, help, assistance & to Jake and the guys at JHM for the technical advice and the time that Jake gave in particular, at weekends and late in the day when I'm sure he was trying to close the shop, when I was calling him from England...... The time difference can be a pain, I was asleep when Jake was working and vice versa.

Cheers Everyone, I'll keep you updated.

Jim

The End Result

The part that caused so much head scratching - Make sure you check it if your fitting one.

All sounds great and glad you got to the stage you wanted it at.

I'm liking that a lot. Next step for the tdi must be a s4 :)

I have one just like that but in silver when you're ready for the swap ! JHM tune, piggy downpipes, cats deleted, 20" wheels and a well running engine with no chain issues whatsoever ! It needs a resonated Milltek exhaust to complete the package and a pair of recaro sportster front seats from the b7 rs4 ! Mecanically sound with new brakes all round and upgraded suspension...

Get some pics up Adam, like to see how yours look on 20's.........

Stock interiors are not too bad..........
