TQS track car project - extremely slow progress

Make sure you use a proper brake spanner.

I've never used heat on those particular unions, but it can sometimes help. Maybe give it a gentle warm and see, if it doesnt come then give it a roasting.

Sprayed the calipers yesterday after they had to go through a "refurb" . One bleeder wasn't holding and caliper needed a helicoil. I decided to change all of bleeders and crossover pipes. After spraying yesterday evening, today were ready to fit

Now calipers are on the car, hoses connected, abs sensor wiring soldered and pad sensor wires together.
How do you guys route the braided hose? Should I cable tie it together with abs wiring?

the hose should go upwards out of the caliper and attach to a clip thing on the rear of the upright.

If your uprights dont have the clips you'll need to buy them. Theres a thread on SRS about it, think you need the clips from a B7 RS4.

That's what I need! My uprigths have only single bracket for abs wiring.

Lol. Brackets on back order. At least 10 days from audi.

After 4 days of work, brembo's, coilovers and all front control arms are fitted. Bled the brakes today and also fitted new pads to the rear. Car feels awesome. Braking power is immense compared to stock ones. Still looking out for trig brackets to fit rear calipers.
What do you guys think?

Looking good there slepy !!

Trig brackets are pretty hard to come by these days you need to be on the ball on srs to score those lol

Why not go full B6 setup ??

Because I've got facelift S4 calipers :(

Next steps to my build are:
- finally weld in the harnesses
- find which exhaust shield rattles
- change box and diff oil
- exhaust - no idea which one
- clear out more ***** from inside to lose more weight.
- rear brakes when I find brackets

I have to say though. This car is heavier than type r I had but feels as fast, if not better. Boost comes instantly rather than just playing in top revs. Weight loss helped a lot. Loving it and can't imagine what an animal it is going to be in the future with 300-400bhp.

Your car is coming along ace mate! You've done a great job with the front bumper too. I'm a fan of OEM, but it looks nice.

And...our cars are almost the same :)

I suspect yours is a little better maintained than mine. I'm not too keen on the colour of my wheels though. I wanted them a much lighter grey, but they came back from powder coating much too dark. Should have complained really. I think i might look to sell/ swap them.

Well, I don't think it was maintained at all before I bought it. Had loads of issues. Oil light/pump, missfiring etc. All sorted now though.I do like oem as well and ideally would go for S4 or Rs4 bumper and mod it to fit a4 wings but prices are shocking. Not worth for the track car. Standard A4 bumper didn't want to work with the fmic. I think your wheels are lighter than mine. I'm not a fan of dark wheels but it looks quite good on silver.

Yeah yours look darker, and glad they're on a silver car as you say. I do like them, but I think I currently prefer my 17" boleros. I ideally want some BBS LM reps.

The previous owner managed to somehow squeeze a FMIC on mine with the standard bumper, you can just see it poking out behind the grill that recently fell off :( No idea what size the FMIC is though compared to yours, so it might be smaller. I need to properly read through your thread sometime, you've done loads! Keep up the good work!

Where are you based? West Yorkshire here! Always good to see if people are local.

Sheffield mate :) My FMIC is for 3" piping and it is massive. Ready for big turbo ;). Any engine mods on yours?

Ah nice. I don't know how big my fmic is, I'll look at it sometime.

It's got the fmic, milltek and a remap. It goes ok, but I wish it was a lot faster :( lol

I'm kind of hankering for an s4 at the moment, but want to practice my amateur mechanics a little more on the a4 first.

It needs to be used as a bit of a family car too, so can't remove seats for weight loss either lol

Is milltek loud? I'm thinking about stainless exhaust but need to have in mind noise limits on the track. Probably will go for a custom to save some cash but they are hit and miss with quality and noise. Milltek though... £600.

The milltek is quite loud, but I have not got a clue about track day noise etc.

Plus, I only hear it in the car, which is completely different. You're right, they're not cheap though. Mine was already done, but I think I'd have been tempted by a custom job rather than milltek if I was paying for it.

You at any shows or meets? If so, by all means I'll take you out for a spin so you can hear it.

Not recently. Too much work :(

Always the way :( I've hardly been to anything in the last 6 months, but I need to check out local meets as I've intended on making an appearance at a few but never yet.

I have a ths decat and non res milltek fitted and the sound inside is just a boom noise but when i got the mot done when the lad pulled it round to the valet bay it sounded totally different to what i though it sounded like my mum can hear me coming to her house from the top of her estate lol the back box helps alot though as ive listened to some with straight through exhaust on youtube and they sound alot louder than mine just on idle.

As soon as I get the harness welded I will book a t-day :)

What about fitting S4 exhaust? Obviously it's a V6 with 2 downpipes but after that? There's a better chance to get used one than from a4.

yeh S4 system fits fine, you'll need to get an exhaust shop to make up the section between the 1.8T downpipe, and just after the Y on the S4 system.

Thats exactly what I did, used a Milltek 3" single S4 resonated system. Removed the front Y pipe and got an exhaust shop to make me a 3" downpipe to the rest of the system. All the hangers etc on the S4 system line up nicely.

It is not loud at all but that is what I wanted as I had a straight through system before and was embarrassing after a while.

Right, still need to change box and diff oil.
How much oil (75W90?) will I need for both?
Also, I remember reading somewhere that I will need a special tool for that
but isn't it just a 17mm hex/allen? Both levels should be up to the filling hole?

5L will do both. Box takes a bit under 3 and the diff takes a bit under 2.

The drain plug is some odd security torx or spline fitting IIRC. The fill plug is a 17mm allen key.

Diff uses 10mm allen keys for both drain and fill.

As always, make sure the fill plug comes out first!

So with a set of Torx and splines I should be fine?
Do you remember what size is it?

Edit:
Found it on ecs website. Just not sure if normal spline will work without the hole.

Ordered! Better my GF doesn't see another tool coming by post or I might be in trouble :)

My ebay is joined to my misses phone so im balls'd either way lol

Gearbox is M16 spline and 14mm hex iirc

And the diff is a 14mm hex and 8mm hex iirc

I swapped to 75w80 fuchs titan as it had the correct spec where as the 75w90 doesnt a few on srs have done this also !!

Changed box and diff oil today. Yesterday finally had the harness plates welded in. Tomorrow morning I will fit the seats and harness bar which I finished off today. While under the car I had a look at the diff shield and nothing looks loose. So what are other things that can rattle like exhaust shield? Also, I've noticed that it boosts only to 9-10 psi according to my gauge. So cat comes to mind as an issue?

I assume that by fitting FMIC the size I have will lower the pressure but that much?

Finished with the harness bar today. Still not ideal with my shoulder harness with metal bits on my collar bone so will need to think something out.
Went for a drive through snake pass and absolutely loved it.

18th of October destination Blyton Park eastern circuit. Can't wait! Need to squeeze in wheel allignment before that somehow with being completely screwed at work!

good stuff!

I've got mine booked for 1st November. Need alignment and also need to re-bleed the brakes.

Also need to sort some bits out on the trailer!

I will probably bleed brembos again as well. Need one tire for spare wheel and a toolbox I can lock. Where are you going?

I went for blyton cause it has good run off areas ;)

knockhills runoffs arent too bad, but tbh its not that fast a track, its only 1.3 miles long and you'd be lucky to hit 100mph in a car like mine with stock power at any point on the track.

Yeah. Same with blyton. About 1.5 miles track and the eastern circuit is more technical and mostly slower than the full track. Just hope to get everything done in time for it.

Booked a4 for hunters wheel allignment this saturday. Should I be asking for different than standard settings as it's a track car? What can be done with camber etc. with standard control arms?
