Track/Hillclimb A3 1.8t

The 35mph speed limit, number of old people, and £400,000 average house price out weighs the car restrictions and "tax dodging" as prawn calls us. But yeah more then welcome.

You're just striving for perfection superK

Having driven a LOAD of 02J and 02M cars, the 02J is miles slower to change gear. below 6k it's not really an issue, but above 6k it really does hold the car back on a synchro box.

The 02M is much faster to change generally, but you do run the risk of bending selector forks if you're too aggressive with it (Stacey  ), so i still treat mine fairly carefully!

Oi just seen this lol

Suppose their is a pattern forming with 2 of these now, but it has been said that my gear changes resemble a DSG box :racer:

Just started reading through this and will catch up and get up to speed over the next few days as I'm sure there's lots of useful info I can use

I'm just starting to strip mine out to a simular level so hopefully you would have done all the hard work and research and I'll just follow behind and copy ;)

A bit of progress today we got the o2j out

We don't have a choice we have 3 weeks left to get it all back together aligned and tested before it gets hammered around a track

Still waiting on some photos or a slow progress build thread from you daz

hahaha. im too lazy mate.
love reading this one though. whens your fisrt trackday?
and where?

First track day for this car is September the 12th at Loheac in France. It's a nice track in a motoring dedicated town. I have been before when I first got my daily 3 years ago

Wiring is done. Just need to order bushes, put clutch and new pipe in, gearbox in, new steering rack in, new hubs on, bushes putting in wishbones then fitting and suspension all putting on, dogbone mount back on, sub frame on, discs all round, front end back on, anti roll bars need putting on, front end needs to go back on, seats need frame making and welding in, gear shifter need frame making and weld or bolting in, wheels need tyres putting on, clean and tidy inside then polish then take to have tracking done and camber setup.
Think that's about it.

Seeing that you all like guessing stuff. What do you think these wheels were originally from?

Are they OE? VAG?

I still think Seat of some kind from the style. but if they're not an OE VAG fitment then I'm stumped!

Impreza? Celica?

They are oe fitment too but off a much newer car. And they are not normally black either. (i didn't spray them tho)

newer car and 5 x 100 fitment means smaller.

I'm thinking small skoda or VW. Perhaps something like a yetti or a fabia / polo?

Very good. Skoda fabia vrs. Wasn't sure at first but they are growing on me. Plus they look better with the bigger tyres on.

I thought I'd see if my Golf would suit black wheels. They are identical tyre size but Tim said I couldn't put the tyres on my Gti

Right update time. I know it has been a while but had a lot of things going on with the track day and having a week "holiday"

So the week before we are due to be away and we had brake line problems due to old ones being seized on.

At this point the car was looking like this. With no seats or front end on.

So through the week we put new brake line on and seats in only to find the harnesses we had were not good at all didn't clip in. (EBay knock offs)

4 days so the weekend before we were going away I took the afternoon off and made the shifter raising blocks and fitted the new better harnesses that I had ordered.

That evening Tim and I got the rest of the front end together ready to test it later that night.

Whilst putting the wider tyres on we discovered we needed spacers so quick ordered those in the view that dad was coming over a day later so could bring them with him if they didn't arrive on time and we would just drive down on standard wheels and tyres.

So we got it on the ground all excited filled it up with fluid bled the system with issues started her up only to find the brake master cylinder had **** itself.

So we turned in for the night.

We worked on it over the weekend finishing off bits and pieces waiting on the new master cylinder to arrive that was ordered from Lucas over here.

New master cylinder arrived on the Tuesday but it was wrong so a few quick phone calls around and luckily the only place on the island to have one was our friendly local skoda garage. So at half 4 dad was off to get that whilst I tackled taking the old one off. Not as easy as expected.
Long story short at 3 in the morning (on the day we were due to be on the boat at 11.30) finally had the new one on bled it all with easy bleed bled the clutch again and took it for a spin.

All was looking hopefully brakes were a bit spongy but could sort that out we thought.

Swapped so Tim could drive and the clutch started to change the way it felt and eventually started running away with him. Something not right here. We were playing with it until 4.30 then decided we would call it quits.

Next day we had to make the decision this car was not safe to take and I had run out of energy. So we changed the boats to next day and took my mum's skoda yeti instead.

Anyway the track day itself was good. We still had my dad's Fisher fury. (see hill climb videos) and my girlfriend's polo gti with a set of kumho track tyres. This went a lot better then we thought.

There was just one thing missing which would have been great.

There were some very quick m3s running slicks there along with a few Porsches (one of which ended up picking gravel out of every orifice in the afternoon probably because he had been overtaken by a polo in the morning) some Honda s2000s with stupid loud exhausts, a couple of rally mk2 escorts and a few other cars like a fwd tt and a twingo.

But that's about it. I only got back yesterday so mission fix Audi commences tomorrow. I'm gagging to drive it again. And luckily a few of the skoda garage guys said they will come down and lend a hand because they want so see this car go.

Brilliant thread lads lots of useful information for me to kindly steal. Wish I had the funds to throw at mine I'm like daz20vt a sloooow but fun build.

Thanks we will try and put stuff up that will help. Feel free to ask any questions and we will try to help.

I forgot to say worst of all the weekend all the calamity was happening I couldn't find my Audi sport stickers. Almost turned the house upside down but couldn't find them anywhere. Think this was where our luck started to really go down hill.

wow those photos of us are horrendous...thanks Nick! Should be up and running within the next few weeks.

hold your horses dont get carried away!!!!
i never said fun!!!!

having to pay labour is my biggest gripe!
though ive finally found a decent guy so progress should pick up i hope.

btw guys those are some pretty little faces your pulling

did i read girlfriend?????
;)

Haha daz well no paying cash out isn't fun luckily I've done all mine myself and if I can with my half tool kit anybody can I'm a heavy handed ox most things break at first try.

Yeah we thought it would be funny to pull the worst faces. Somehow it distorted Tim's face Something weird. The tyres are federal fz201's a little cheaper then the r888s so thought we would give them a try. After driving dads Fisher with 888s I think they would get murdered pretty quickly on the Audi (with my driving style anyway).

so whats the next plan for track time guys?
or the new first plan for track time?

Haha that would be because we aren't French, our mum is from Guernsey and our dad is English. But from those photos looks like we are from a zoo.

Are you guys brothers?

I hadn't realised that before!

Pretty cool family project if so!

Looking forward to seeing it at ADI next year :)

Sure are Mr Prawn. Tim is on the right in the photos and I'm the one who is too lazy to shave. It won't be competition for you next year due to the power won't be there but hopefully will have something else to play with on track. Hopefully our luck will get better too.
