Accelerated hard down a slip road earlier n nearly hit the rev limiter without realising, almost instantly after, the red battery light came on in the speedo then a red exclamation mark flashed up on the LCD display. No where to pull over so I turned ignition off n on and the exclamation mark disappeared but battery light still on. Got to where I was going n went to leave, car only just started, driving down the road then the yellow battery light came up on the LCD display, car started losing power, wipers slow, windows slow, then eventually died and wouldn't start.
I can only assume it's the alternator as the battery is only a week old but it's strange that it happened after nearly hitting the limiter.

Probably the brushes are shot on the alternator. With the engine red lining that would be maximum speed for the alternator.
They can be replaced on some models of alternator.

Karl.

Cheers for the replies guys, only just been able to get back on here. I stole my mates alternator off his TT which was replaced recently n was sitting in my drive as it's off the road atm. Only took me about 2 hours to remove both n fit his one into mine.

Mine starting playing up recently... Struggling at low revs and then lights ever so slightly dimming until I get upto normal 3k+ driving speed.

Replace the Alternator? Cars just hit 100k. 2002 BAM S3.
