Hi all, another engine rattle thread I'm afraid. Searched the forum for an example of this, but other than vague descriptions I couldn't find an exact match. Maybe one of you had this previously and can help?

Just today a new noise from the engine appeared, but not sure from where exactly. It only occurs when engine load is low and I'm in drive or reverse or very briefly when starting. It is audible when cold or warm, with no apparent difference in noise level or intensity during these times. Oil level is just bellow maximum with power and normal driving sound not being affected in any way with no warning lights. Car has done just under 80k and is serviced regularly by 4rings. I sent Dean an email, but maybe someone here has experienced this before?

Here is a short video that demonstrates the sound:

I can't really help you sorry, but for someone that might know something about it what gearbox is fitted?
It may be that rather than the engine, as I hear a lot about the multitronic box failing around the 100k mark.

Just a quick update on this - sounds like it may be an ancillary belt pulley bearing that has gone. I have the car booked into 4rings and should know for sure once they guys take a look.

I hope it is for your wallets sake mate.

It's just cost my mate £1500 to fit a recon box to his.

Was the alternator pulley in the end which was a bit of a relief. Swapped the ancillary belt for good measure too.

Nice mate, always nice when it turns out to be a cheap simple fix.
