Hi Guys,

This is my first Audi and probably my last unfortunately, its 5 years old and i have already had a 6.5K engine repair because the Oil Pump failed, My Roof doesn't go up or down and I get 10 flashes of the roof light, I constantly have an Airbag light coming on and now I have this Tinny Rattle/Vibration when my car is in Idle, Neutral or Park Like Rocks or Marbles in a Tin Can.

I have an Audi A4 CAB 2.0 TDI with DSG, 58 Plate and about 83K miles, I have always had it serviced at Audi up to the engine fault as I think they are untrustworthy and I am not sure whether they were something to do with the fault. So Audi serviced up to 60K, now serviced by normal mechanics but I buy and supply the best parts that I can get from Euro Car Parts and using Castrol Edge Oil. Recently had the CAM Belt and Water Pump Replaced.

On Sunday I noticed this Tinny Rattle/Vibration noise from the front of the engine, the Recovery guy found that my battery cover had come off some how travel across the front of the engine and down the front and retrieved it with two holes in it. So he recovered me to a local garage, I thought it was just the front belts or wheels may be loose. The Garage feel it is coming from the transmission but do not do gearboxes so have called in a specialist to assess. Just wondered if somebody had any ideas or have experienced the same issue. The Car drives fine but when in Neutral or Park have this load Tinny noise/Rattle/Vibration.

I would appreciate any help as I deffo think I have the Friday Night after the pub built car, I always thought Audi were a top quality car which is why I brought it but I get wind noise, rattles, faults galore... is that I am just unlucky

Sorry can't help with the gearbox but roof problems are quite common. When mine failed I followed Vagpro's guide on how to fix it, was straight forward and free.
Lot's of members have used it. If you do a quick search of the forum it should come up (can't cut/paste with this ipod)

Thanks for your response I will search, is this the one where you have to take the motor out of the boot as that seemed quite complex as I am useless with cars.

That's the one, hardest part is getting the trim panels out. Well worth a try.

Thanks Stevieb2905 I will have to as running out of money ;), As an update on the original noise seems to be a Gearbox issue, the garage are telling me its the DMF and £800 to fix. I Spent £19K on this car with full Audi servcie history on 20K miles now only 5 years old and I have had to replace a top engine, oil pump, turbo and the DMF a stinging £7500 with an Air Bag Light that keeps coming on and a roof that doesn't work..... I have owned BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Vauxhall, Renault and Peugoet previously and never had so many major faults on a car in my life......
