Jardo's 'Journey to quattro' - My Story...

Jar do I'm thinking of putting buckets in my S3 to shed some weight.
I noticed that the seat belt buckle is part of the seat, when you fit the buckets how / where would you put the buckle?
Obviously if your running harnesses this isn't an issue

I won't be using the standard seatbelt with buckets, it's just far too dangerous. You might as well not wear a seatbelt, because the belt won't be touching you, it'll be resting on the sides of the seats so you'd be thrown forward 10 inches before you got any restraint.

I will (read Prawn will) have to make some steel brackets to mount from the subframes to secure the harnesses. I imagine a 10mm thick steel plate with a hole in it would be enough. Open to Prawns suggestion on this.

Ahh I dint think of this. it was just an idea at shedding some weight but I would rather keep the heavy recaros and live ha ha! Ah well.
Thanks again

as above, I'll almost certainly end up this.

Need to get the hardware before making a proper decision, but whatever it is, I'll make it safe :thumbs up: *

*if anyone would like my to make it 'less' safe for our dear friend, please PM me with your financial proposal for making it worth my while

Issues.

Started the car up, got 1/4 of a mile down the road and the battery light came up on the DIS. Then it went away.

Stopped at Tesco, started it up again and got a little distance down the road and the red batter light in the speedo lit up.

Got a further 1/4 of a mile and a big (!) came up in the DIS.

Then the lights died, and the indicators went mental, speedo stopped working, rev counter stopped working, car kept running.

Got home, turned the car off, went to restart it. Nothing.

Across the battery I have 12.1. All the earth straps and connectors are sound.

So shall I just throw a new battery on it and hope for the best?

Yep.

I find it odd that the entire battery charge would go within two start ups and half a mile?

Yep.

Seems odd to me. Mine threw the serpentine belt twice recently; on both occasions I did a good three miles or so before parking up (first time in stop-start traffic, second time on a clear motorway), and another mile without charging a couple of days later (both occasions it was a Saturday).

I did however turn absolutely everything off and gently nurse the car to my chosen destination...

With the engine running 12.1v across the battery isn't enough ! Your alternators dead :(
Still could be worse ! I could of had the £4500 when it was up for sale and it would be now my problem

Yep.

Alternator was dispatched today.

Went for a fully reconditioned one with a new pulley off eBay, £75 deliverered.

I'll post a link up and a quick "how to" when I've done it, fairly easy job.

So for now she is sat on the driveway in disgrace!

I changed mine and the belt at night time, took like 4 hours and ended at like 1am! It felt so good going for a a drive at that time.

Took me 25 minutes to remove it on Monday night, and about 45 minutes to put it all back together this morning.

Wahooooo I've fixed something.

First time for everything ey

well done chap. it's rewarding doing something yourself isn't it?

Also means I get to chill and and relax this evening instead of driving a 50 mile round trip to fix your car, which is good because I'm knackered, so fanx geeza! :racer:

No worries.

Enjoy your past n sauce I know that's Thursdays meal.

Buckets were delivered today, whoopee.

Apparently the likes of Daz have fitted bucket seats on to the S3 seats subframes.

Any light to shed on this? Trallala.

S3 Recaro bases. Final product was marginally different (didn't keep the standard seatbelt, so the red clicky bit went)

Jardog, I have a set of sparco double locking sliders that could be of interest to you if you wanted to keep them moveable front to rear.

I'll send you pictures tomorrow when I'm on a pc Jdiddly. I would take Prawn up on that offer, I have double locking runners on mine, it's a nice creature comfort to slide them!

Lovely George sent me these lovely pictures -

:s3addict:

My list of things to do is nigh on completed too.

1. Fit the DS2500's for daily use.
2. Paint the side pods black.

3. Change the exhaust.
4.Tidy up the interior.
5. Get the meth working properly.
6. Think about removing the diesel geek, although the more I use it the better it feels.
7. Clutch. Nothing wrong with the current one, just to make me feel better.
8. Pickup has been done, but I want to flush the engine with flushing oil and run a conditioner and cleaner through it for 100 miles.
9. Remove the tints.
10. Space the wheels
and refurbish them.
11. Four new tires.
12. Liquid gauge

only problem with using s3 subframes is that the seat isnt central with the steering wheel.
though its not over obvious while driving
also the s3 subframe is s3 specific so a golf gti subframe wont fit the s3 seats so means you limit your selling field.
just fyi mate!

Yeaaaaah, it'll be fine. Thanks for the info though.

I've got my name on the twin lock sliding runners off Prawn, I've got some S3 seats to butcher AND you're forgetting I've got a very special steering wheel.

I'll just give it a bit of a tug and bend it where it needs to be.

Donny here we come!

I've had a very grumpy week.

I've been signed off work, told I can't drive, generally very very ill.

Having replaced the alternator last Thursday (the day I came down with death) I have not be able to drive let alone even start the S. This makes me sad.

Today I topped myself with drugs and ventured out to the S to tinker.

I decided the engine bay being really untidy was annoying me, so I got my little steamer out, sprayed everything down with degreaser, went at it with a light brush and then steamed it all off.

Happy with that.

Now that George has annoyed me about it I've got another thing to change.

10672050_1546388625576313_7062276941106744499_n.jpg

Checked her levels, topped up a couple of bits and fired her up.

She sounded so happy.

Gave her a couple of minutes to warm up and she was back to her beautiful clattery self.

Aaaah. :)

Bad news regarding my seats.

Basically they aren't very good. I bought some knock off Recaro Pole Position seats from eBay, and the quality just isn't there. They were shipped from Athens so I can't return them, so I'll just try and sell them cheap on a forum to somebody I don't know.

Which has left me not wanting to be bitten again, so there's a few new options for me to look st in time for Donny.

Cleaning the engine bay aggravated me, so I ordered a few new silicone pipes, brake vac line kit, new jubilees and clips, second hand battery box which will clean the bay up no end.

So I am happy with that.

And my spacers have been dispatched. :)

Good girl.

Do you want the coolant bottle then? I paid £13 for it, and haven't even taken it out of the box. £11 posted and its yours :)

Yeah but I can't pay you until the 24th, but feel free to post it and I'll send you're cash on pay day.

I haven't won the battery box yet, I can still retract my bid. £20+postage for the lot?

Is the box the whole thing?

Don't ask why I don't have £11...

My mum put my bank card in the washing machine by accident after I give it to her to go down the pub.

Since then I've used all my money in Paypal. I haven't been able to go into branch to take out any more cash, but I've ordered a new card.

So my online payments aren't going through, I took out £200 cash with the card the night my mum went down the pub with it.

And to top it all off I forgot I haven't changed my address details from Ascot back to my mums so I can't pick up the new card until the doctor says I can drive again.

So I've been buying everything on pay after delivery on Paypal and crossin my fingers.

As I said, don't ask...

how come your paypal is different to everyone elses?

paypal is linked to your account, you don't need a card at all, it comes out as a direct debit

Strange chap - the aids must be effecting your head.

My paypal asks for "cards ending in" rather than account number.

It might be because it's a business account though. I got pay after delivery like 6 months ago too.
