Was wondering if anyone can advise here
.
I recently purchased a A3 1.6 FSI sport - 2005.

The DIS Driver Information System comes on when I put the key in the ignition but only when i have turned on the power/electrics but not actually starting the engine.

When the engine is started it switches off and this remains like that when driving, occasionally I have noticed over the last 5 days of having it is that it may come on when at a stop for a few seconds then switches off.
It is not the bulb as it would not come on at all...correct? Not sure if it a loose connection that when the engine starts it triggers something to make it switch off?

To paint a bigger picture, so when the key is in and the engine NOT started I can use the wiper stalk to cycle and amend the DIS display options as normal and it does not switch off but then once I have started the engine it switches off..?

Can anyone advise, it is not affecting the cars performance or is it flashing any other lights but obviously I would like it to be on so I can see the information etc.

Any input would be helpful.

On later models you can set the DIS to switch off (for some reason?) 'reduced display' I don't know if this is what you are seeing and I don't know if the DIS then shows up under certain conditions momentarily?

Hi, thanks for the response.

No there is no 'reduced display' on this model you can turn off the radio display on the DIS but that is it. I have tried reseting it when the engine is off but still does not work.

Its a strange one as when the engine is off it is ok I can cycle through the different display options and shows which doors open etc and does not switch off but as soon as I turn the engine on it switches off. There has been a couple of times that when the engine is on normally at stand still it will come on for a bout 5 seconds at the most but this is rarely noticed it twice in about a week.

Im not sure if it is a fuse or something which triggers it to switch off when the engine starts? :/

Even speaking to my mechanic about this he finds it a funny one. It would be simple if it was the bulb but that's not the case.

Better still, with VCDS you may find a control which allows one to see the DIS at all times, and not switch it off. In other words, you problem may be fixable by choosing a different setting using VCDS. There are many experts on this site who, I am sure will know about these settings, and which one to change. Good luck.
