Hi all,

My air con doesn't go cold until I've been driving for around 5 mins and wondered if this is normal? If its hot outside then I put the temp on low and press auto and the fans blast on full but just blow the hot air from outside for roughly 5 mins until the air con decides to work. When it kicks in then its pretty cold and will work fine from then on. No faults showing on VCDS but wondered if anybody could offer any advise?

Thanks..

5 mins may be a tad long but I wouldn't worry about it, air needs to flow over the radiator (air con condenser). There is only so much air the fans can pull through when you are stationary, driving massively increases the airflow.

Really? My wife's focus is blowing cold almost instantly, thought there may have been an issue. Not only does it do my head in through the summer. It's a real pain in the winter as you can't use the windscreen de-mist option as it just steams the window up instantly as it just blowing the cold damp air from outside..

Have the same kind of situation. If the car has been left standing for a day or so, it takes about a kilometer before I get really cold air. If the car is used the following day, cold air is available very quickly, and I live in a warm area. However, if the outside temperature is not much warmer than the inside temperature, the compressor will not be told to pump refrigerant through at high volume. So, in the winter when the outside temperature is low, in order to get cold air, one needs to set the inside temp really low if you want a quick demist. . Make sure that the aircon is fully charged with refrigerant before worrying too much. I have been told that a recharge should be done every two years, just to keep the aircon healthy, and the seals properly lubricated. . I think I may have a 'lazy' sensor, but have no error codes to point at it. Good luck.
